1 Timothy 2:1–6 ESV
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
1 Timothy 2:8 ESV
8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
In our nation. We sometimes focus more on our rights than our responsibilities. This verse tells us that we should always focus more on the latter.
These verses tells us to pray for all people. This is to highlight the fact that we all (even those in authority) have a need for God’s grace and guidance. Then it calls for us to pray for those in authority. Even those we may not like or agree with. Because their leadership impacts the lives of people.
We must pray for those in authority, regardless of political party or allegiance.
So, as you pray, ask God to hear us, as we lift up our country and leaders. To protect from the divisions that challenges our ability to live lives pleasing to God. Ask him to defend the vulnerable and voiceless, and bring justice to those who suffer injustice. And ask him to realign and unify people towards Christ. Who is the author and protector of our faith as we cry out to Him for our nation.
