1. Freedom From Condemnation

Romans 8:1-4

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus

The central truth of today, is in this statement. If you hear nothing that I say today let this be the resounding cry, there is NO condemnation for the who are in Christ Jesus. But who’s in Christ Jesus?

2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Law in this sense is a a principle or a principality if you will. Its a general rule, like gravity it just is true you feel it even when you may not understand it. We see this in chapter 7, of which Paul has been building a redemptive case all through Romans culminating to this point, but ultimately describing his personal struggles in Chapter 7.

In biblical times, there was a woman caught in adultery, brought before Jesus by the Pharisees. They expected condemnation, but instead, Jesus asked them to cast the first stone if they were without sin. One by one, they left, and He told her, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.' This illustrates that being condemned doesn't have to be the end. Jesus offered her a second chance to start anew, reminding us that grace often accompanies our failures.

15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.

21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

We see this law governing over Paul, just as it does you and I, pulling him to do things he doesn’t understand or even have the capacity to do, overcome sin!

3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.
