Story about me begging for a hedgehog
Have you ever wanted something so bad you actually begged
well i have and I really wanted a hedge hog
I made a google slide to explain why i needed it
I didn’t get the pet but that kind of gives us a image of how Paul is starting off here in Romans 12 1-2
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Appeal
Paul is begging here for us to be willing to be a living sac
He is begging you specifically no one but YOU
Mercies
The mercy of God is the only reason we can even be considered enough to be a living sac
We deserve death Romans 6 23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Two ways too look at this
Blessing
Duty
Present your body as a living sac
The lord has given us this body so why would we not use it for him
LIVING SAC
This means day in and day out we should be a sac for the Lord
As long as there is breath in our lungs we should be sac our life for him
What is a living sac 2 things
Being willing to follow no matter what
The first deciples
Willing to leave your comfy life immediately
Knowing difficulties will come
The enemy is here to steal kill and destroy
Life isn’t easy as a follower of Christ
No where in the Bible does it say it will be
That is a lie straight from the enemy
Throw you off path/ away from the Lord
False hope
Holy and acceptable
This is the only acceptable response to what the Lord and Jesus has paid for us
We can never be enough to repay it but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t show him our thankfulness
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Conformed
First word I wanna look at that means to form according to a pattern
Or in other words form to this world
So Paul is begging here not to look like this world
We should be living different than the world
We should not try and fit in we should try and follow the Lord
Instead be transformed
Change from mold of world into mold of Christ
Literal meaning of transformed
To have a change visible to others
We should have a noticeable difference when we are saved
Especially when we surrender to the ministry
We should not resemble the world but instead our true home the kingdom of heaven
We should show people our real home
The renewal of your mind
How can we be transformed
To renew our mind on things above
Not things of this world
These things will parish
How can we be a living sac for the Lord if we are always worried about earthly things
Once you renew your mind and focus on heavenly things then you can better discern the will of God
Our ultimate goal should be to discern the will of God
Especially If you are considering ministry
We need to discern the will of God
Not our will
Not what we want
Not so we can be seen
Instead
God’s will
God’s wants
Glorify God
Closing
So as I close I just want to bring to attention that as Christ Followers we should be wanting to be a living sacrifice for him and when we become a living sacrifice we should see a noticeable difference in our life and in our motives our mind should be renewed so we can discern what is the will of God and what is not the will of God.
