a. We have peace that Jesus conquers our biggest fear – Death
b. We have peace that Jesus has conquered our biggest problem – sin
c. We have peace that Jesus provided our biggest hope – eternal life

b. In the same way we are sent – to reveal the Father and to seek and save the lost

B. Application
1. The fact that Jesus sends us means that we have a purpose as followers of Christ
2. We are to glorify God through Holy lives, just as Jesus did
3. We are to share the gospel and point people to salvation

IV. Power – the Holy Spirit (22)

A. Explanation
1. And when He said this, He breathed on them
a. Genesis 2:7 – Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature
b. Ezekiel 37:9 - Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live
2. There is a direct correlation between the commission and the empowerment of the Spirit
3. The Holy Spirit will empower these people
a. To fulfill the command to go
b. To live Godly lives – Ezekiel 26:27 - 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules
B. Application
1. Jesus promises us the same Holy Spirit
2. We have the power of the Holy spirit to live Holy and righteous lives
3. But also, to make a difference in this world through the gospel
4. We should be faithful in sharing Christ in this world because the Holy Spirit is with us

V. Potency (23) (The power of something to influence or make an impression)

A. Explanation
1. The power to forgive sins still belongs to God
2. What we have is the gospel which is the power to bring people to forgiveness
3. It is ours to give to those who are willing to place their faith in Christ
4. Where we do not share the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit people will still be stuck in their sin without forgiveness
B. Application
1. It is imperative that we share the secret to forgiveness
2. That Christ dies for our sin on the cross and that when we come to Him in faith our sin is completely and eternally forgiven
3. We have this potency or authority to share the message that will give eternal healing and life to the lost!

The Great Chicago Fire was a conflagration that burned in the American city of Chicago during October 8–10, 1871. The fire killed approximately 300 people, destroyed roughly 3.3 square miles (9 km2) of the city including over 17,000 structures, and left more than 100,000 residents homeless.[3] The fire began in a neighborhood southwest of the city center. A long period of hot, dry, windy conditions, and the wooden construction prevalent in the city, led to the conflagration spreading quickly. The fire leapt the south branch of the Chicago River and destroyed much of central Chicago and then crossed the main stem of the river, consuming the Near North Side.
Said to have started at the O’Leary farm when a cow kicked over a lantern
22 Years later the city hosted 21 million visitors for the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893
