Isaiah 49:14–16 KJV 1900
14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, And my Lord hath forgotten me. 15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee. 16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Thy walls are continually before me.

Introduction

What is the nature of a Mother’s love?
When Paul is describing love in 1 Corinthians 13 he says:
1 Corinthians 13:5–7 KJV 1900
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Notice the King James says “her” own. Implying a feminine characteristic.
Look at verse 5 in the Amplified version:
Amplified Bible Chapter 13

5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

ESV

It does not insist on its own way;

LEB

it is not selfish

Institutes of the Christian Religion Chapter 7: A Summary of the Christian Life

Were it the only thing required of us to seek not our own, nature would not have the least power to comply: she so inclines us to love ourselves only, that she will not easily allow us carelessly to pass by ourselves and our own interests that we may watch over the interests of others, nay, spontaneously to yield our own rights and resign it to another.

Love, as it expressed through motherhood, is completely selfless.
A Mother loves when she is not loved.

A teacher asked a boy this question: “Suppose your mother baked a pie and there were seven of you—your parents and five children. What part of the pie would you get?” “A sixth,” replied the boy. “I’m afraid you don’t know your fractions,” said the teacher. “Remember, there are seven of you.” “Yes, teacher,” said the boy, “but you don’t know my mother. Mother would say she didn’t want any pie.

If a mother got her feeling hurt every time she was under-appreciated, taken for granted or gave without getting anything in return, she would go completely insane.
She just forgets it.
Biblical love, like a mother’s love, is not a transaction.
She doesn’t love her baby because of what the baby can give her, if she does, she’s not a real mother.
Here the other day, I was talking to a mother on the telephone. And the mother said, “Oh, Brother Billy,” she said, “my poor boy is in trouble.” Said, “Oh, what a trouble he’s in.”
I said, “Yes, I know about it, sister, dear.” And she said, “He may be wrong. I don’t know.” Said, “One says this and one says that. I don’t know. But,” said, “no matter whether he’s wrong or right, I love him.” There you are, “I love him.”
He said to his mother, said, “I’ve been so deceived by this and that.” Said, “Mother, I believe you’re about the only sweetheart I really have; a woman that’s true to me, and sticks to me.” That’s mother’s love.
That’s a real mother that’ll put her arms around her baby. Regardless whether he’s right or wrong, she goes right on through. If a mother can think that of her baby, how much more will God think that of His. 54-0509 - "The Invasion Of The United States"
Can you imagine a mother saying “If you love me today I’ll love you back”. No, a mother’s love is unconditional.
A mother would rather lose the argument than kill her child.
Illustrate: Solomon and the custody dispute.
1 Kings 3:26 KJV 1900
26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
1 Kings 3:27 KJV 1900
27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
How much better would all our lives be, if we focused on the well being of others, and not our feelings.
Ecclesiastes 11:1 KJV 1900
1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
We’re wanting to be loved, so we give people the cold shoulder. Why?
Luke 6:38 KJV 1900
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
If you want to be loved, stop punishing people for not loving you.
A mother’s love, like God’s love is not a quid pro quo, “you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours”, or “what have you done for me lately”.
Ilustrate: (Aunt Jemima in Memphis)
But you know, there’s a mother’s love. You’re always mama’s baby. You know, that mother’s love. No matter what you do, it’s never forgotten, mother’s love. 50-0715 - "Led By The Spirit"
There you are, a mother’s love. No matter what he had done, still that mother’s love reaches on out for her child. And if a mother’s love would do that, what will the love of God do? 53-0509 - "The Pillar Of Fire"
I thought, “Mommy’s baby, that shows the love of a mother. No matter how demoral and debauched and how old, how—whatever it is, a mother’s love wades right on through it.” I thought, “If a mother’s love will do that how much more will the love of God?”
“Yea, a mother may forget her suffering babe, but never will I forget you. For your names are engraved on the palms of My hands.” Is that right? 53-1204 - "At Thy Word"
1 John 4:18 KJV 1900
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Like I was telling a lady this morning, when you go to fry your meat for breakfast, and a big bunch of grease pops up on your hand, the first thing you…just scares you to death.
You grab your hand and “Where is the Unguentine?” just as quick as you can. That’s the reason it burns you. That’s what makes…The scare is what…I can prove that. It’s the scare that burns you.
You got the Holy Ghost, it’s operating in your body. Well, when that old snake grabbed a hold of Paul’s hand, there was not a bit of scare. He looked at it like that, shook it off in the fire, and went on, and got some more sticks. It didn’t scare him. See, if you’re not scared…
Jesus said, “Why did you fear?” Peter come walking on the water, doing fine until he seen the waves were contrary, then he got scared and begin to sink. Jesus come, picked him up, said, “Why did you fear, oh ye of little faith?”
Fear, you’re scared it won’t happen. Don’t have one bit of fear; move forward. God said so; that settles it.
And you can’t do that until you have love. Perfect love casts out all fear. If I want to contribute anything to my success in the ministry amongst people, is this: I’ll admit I’ve had to butcher up meetings because I just couldn’t set it and…routine, like ministers do.
And many times I’ve had to promise this, and take this back, and do this, and do that. Because God will make me do it. But if there’s one thing, is because that I have loved people. And people knows that.
You take a little baby three months old, he don’t know nothing. He’s got a mind, but it isn’t developed. He don’t know who, or nothing. The doctors say they can see a light, might see your hand, but they can only follow it.
And he will just be kicking his little heels, and screaming to the top of his voice. Well, here comes some kind woman, comes along passing him, say, “Well, well, dear.” He just kicks right on. He don’t know who the woman is. He don’t know nobody.
But let that mother walk up, just put her hands on him. That settles it. Now, he don’t know his mother. But his little spirit knows there’s something about that spirit there, that nothing else can inject that mother love to him, no matter how much the other person loves. It ain’t the mother’s love. Is that right?
And she lays her hands on him, he will dry up. See, he’s ready. Because that mother, there is a love about her, that goes to the baby, that the baby’s little spirit recognizes that that’s a love that no other love is.
No wonder He ordained us to lay hands on the sick. Take a horse when he’s all bothered, jumping and jerking. You western people ought to know that. You just let the master walk into the stall and probably say, “Whoa, boy,” lay his hands on him, he quieten right down. See, it’s love.
And when we love God with all of our hearts, souls, and minds, and we love one another as ourselves, our neighbors as ourselves, the people can actually feel that. You can’t put it on. You can’t make a belief, ’cause they’ll know it.
I believe Lincoln said one time, “You can fool part of the people, part of the time, but not all of the people, all of the time.” And that’s right. And if you’ve got love in your heart for the people, they’ll know it.
You might act indifferent or anything, but still they know it. They can feel it. It’s another dimension, as we call it, that injects to these people a love that they know it. And they’ll believe it. And that’s when you can help the person, when you believe it.
Now, that’s what we need today in Phoenix, like all the rest of the world. And in our American cities, that where we have become so indifferent towards God…
And the reason we become so indifferent towards God, is because we’re indifferent towards one another. See? When we get in one accord, then God comes down. See?
When we were in Africa, and India, or many of the islands, and so forth, you notice there, just one simple little miracle…That the people this afternoon or any other place look…“That was very wonderful. We praise the Lord for that,” walk right back home with the same indifference.
But let that happen one time among the heathen, and the whole country will come to God. Every one of them will sweep right into the Kingdom of God right then. They believe; they’re humble.
And now, that’s what we’ve got to do now. Let’s just break down all differences everywhere, and just get ourself…Now, you just can’t put it on. It’s got to come from the inside.
You remember, the Holy Spirit knows it, whether it’s coming from the inside. Let’s just get all the differences away, walk right out, and say, “I love the Lord, and I love even my enemies.”
Don’t never…If anyone says anything about you, don’t let that bother you at all. Don’t mar that wonderful feeling till God…My, just go ahead. Love them anyhow. Amen.
What good does it going to do anyhow, for you to get all peeved up about things? Just love them anyhow. Love everybody, ’cause they’re the purchased of the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Whether they’re sinners, or saints, they’re…And then you’ll be able to win them to God because they’ll realize that you really love them. See? That’s what we need today, don’t you think so? 54-0228A - "Expectation"

Bert slipped a shell in his rifle, raised it up, and put the cross hairs across her heart, and as he was making a noise, the doe looked and she saw him. She looked right in the barrel of that rifle, but what was it? The baby was in trouble.
She didn’t care if it was life or what it taken; that baby was in trouble and that mother’s love was so great, no matter what the rifle looked like, or whether death was right in the road, that bullet fixing to clean through her heart, she was looking for that baby. There was a cry; there was in need, and she was a mother, and she was looking for that baby.
And as Bert, standing there, and I had my head bowed, I thought, “God, how can he do it?” And as he was just standing there, I happened to look around. I thought, something strange, the rifle never fired.
I looked back and the barrel was shaking. He set the barrel down, the gun down, dropped the barrel on the ground, run around, and he grabbed me in his arms and said, “Billy, I’ve had enough of it. I can’t stand it no more.”
What was it? When he seen that display of real mother’s love, heroism, looking death right in the face without one stare, it captured that cruel heart of his.
Brother, if you could only find out what the love of God is. “A mother may forget her suckling babe, but never will I forget you. Your names are engraved upon the palms of My hand.”
Christ is looking for men and women tonight who will stand out with the love of God, regardless. The world’s looking tonight for someone to display the real genuine faith of God, no matter what people say, what circumstance is in, how I feel, what it looks like. How I heard the call of God. He’s my Father, and I stand to accept His Word, regardless. 56-1215 - "Hear Ye Him"
Something real, a mother’s love showing us God’s love.
A mother will spend her last moments fighting for her babies.
Illustrate: Mother Possum
I said, “Look at that. Now, come here, Leo, Gene.” I said, “There is real mother’s love. There’s really more mother about this old opossum than there is about that woman that drowned her baby.
She doesn’t have over thirty minutes longer to live, and she’s willing to give that thirty minutes to fight for them babies. It’s mother’s love that’s in her, that makes her do it.” 57-0806 - "God Projecting His Love"
Jesus fought for you on Calvary, before you ever even had the capacity for love.
1 John 4:19 KJV 1900
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
We couldn’t give Him anything in return.
Psalm 116:12 KJV 1900
12 What shall I render unto the Lord For all his benefits toward me?
Psalm 116:13 KJV 1900
13 I will take the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the Lord.
Psalm 116:14 KJV 1900
14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord Now in the presence of all his people.
All I can do is drink from the cup of salvation and worship His name.
Romans 5:6–11 KJV 1900
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
A mother’s love is just a portion of God’s love.
Way up yonder, above, a million, hundred million miles, there’s a space that big, and that is perfect agapao love. Every time you make a step this way, it narrows an inch.
And you know how little it would be time it got to the earth. It’s a shadow of the shadow of the shadows. That’s what you have, that’s what I have, a shadow of shadow of shadows of agapao love. 60-0518 - "Adoption #2"
God’s love was so great, that He showed Himself to Abraham as a mother:
Genesis 17:1 KJV 1900
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
And He said, “Abraham, you’re old, your strength is gone, your arms are withered up, your manhood’s gone, but I am your Mother. Just take a-hold of My promise, and be satisfied while you’re waiting. Be rested!”
Now, that’s the way every believer, no matter how bad the cancer’s got you, how long you been setting in a wheelchair, any of those things, just if you can grasp that revelation from God! Then be satisfied, knowing that it’s going to happen, because faith waits patiently for the promise. 65-1127E - "I Have Heard But Now I See"

Conclusion

Bro. Branham says the Fifth Gospel is a Godly Mother.
She expresses the love of God, without any conditions.
Oh that we could show that kind of love to a lost and dying world!
