Each one of us this morning are not here just by happenstance but because God has brought us all here together..
We go back to last weeks message when Jesus told them he would meet them at Galilee. And when they saw him they worshiped him.. but some doubted as we will see in verse 17. I think I’ve obviously gotten excited to preach out of revelation and the Easter was the perfect timing for that. As we or maybe myself thinking about these seniors and young people being here reminds me that we all need to hear this message. Not just ever now and then but on a regular basis. Go— Make disciple— Baptize
It doesn’t just stop there and i think that’s where we often make our mistakes. Oh i did the thing so now im good. I can live like I want.. God knows my heart. I go to church. But that’s not what is said.. vs 20 says teach them to observe all that i have commanded!
Matthew 28:16–20 ESV
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Observe to notice or comply—
Bear good fruit
Matthew 3:8 ESV
Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.
Matthew 7:20 ESV
Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
Colossians 3:1–10 ESV
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Galatians 3:27 for all you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Acts 22:16 ESV
And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’
It’s the calling on his name here that’s most important thing you can do. Baptism is still mentioned so it has to mean something… of course it does.
Hahaha none of that said the preacher is the only one that has to do it
so do you have to be baptized to be saved. most answer that no.. but should you yes.. in order to each one reach one just as jesus was baptized you should be as well.
