Lesson Title: “Why God Gave Us the Scriptures”
Main Scripture: Romans 15:4 (KJV)
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
Lesson Objectives:
• Understand that the Bible was written to teach, guide, and encourage us.
• Recognize how Scripture builds patience, brings comfort, and gives hope.
• Be challenged to rely on God's Word during hard times.
Class Flow & Outline
1. Welcome & Icebreaker (5–10 min)
• Activity: “Verse Relay” – Match verses to themes like “comfort,” “hope,” or “patience.”

• Discussion Starter: “What’s one verse you’ve heard that helped you when you were upset or confused?”
2. Scripture Focus (10 min)
• Read Romans 15:4 KJV aloud.
• Breakdown:
- “Whatsoever things were written aforetime” = Bible stories of the past
- “Were written for our learning” = We are meant to learn from them
- “Through patience and comfort… might have hope” = Encouragement from Scripture
3. Bible Example: Joseph’s Story (10–15 min)
• Summarize Genesis 37–50
• Discuss how Joseph showed patience and held on to hope.
4. Group Discussion (10–15 min)
• What’s one situation where it’s hard to be patient?
• What does it mean for the Bible to “comfort” us?
• What’s a promise from God that gives you hope right now?
5. Hands-On Activity: Scripture Lifelines (10 min)
• Write a Bible verse that gives you hope on a decorated card.
• Optional: Display on a classroom “Hope Wall.”
6. Wrap-Up & Prayer (5 min)
• Recap Key Truths:
- The Bible teaches us truth
- It helps us grow patience
- It brings comfort during struggles
- It gives us real hope
• Closing Prayer: Thank God for His Word and ask for patience, comfort, and hope.
