This week we’re kicking off our new series Raising Arrows by answering a big question: Why does parenting matter so much to God? Drawing from Deuteronomy 6, Judges 2, and Psalm 127, we’ll look at God’s design for shaping the next generation—not just for parents, but for all of us. Whether you’re raising kids now, hope to one day, or want to be someone who supports and walks with the families in your church, this message is a call to aim with purpose and raise arrows that fly toward Jesus.

Me: Lying

My kids
Learning to lie when I was younger

We: We’ve all been products of someone else’s aim

And whether we realize it or not, we’re aiming the next generation somewhere.
When we do this right we raise up the next gen with purpose… we raise up a generation that brings light into darkness
This matters… If we say to ourselves…
Older Gen: “Oh we did our part… it’s their turn to figure it all out”
Parents: “Oh I’m not thinking too much about it and just letting it play out...”
Singles: “Oh I don’t have kids so this isn’t really something I need to think about...”
When we remove ourselves we’re letting the next gen get aimed in a direction that’s not purposeful.
And if we’re not intentional with the next generation… the world will be.

God: God’s blueprint for purposeful parenting

Context of Deuteronomy 6 - Moses Re-giving The Law and Purpose for the people - The Shema (hear - Verse 4)
Deuteronomy 6:5 - It starts with you. You can’t pass down something you don’t actually live.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 - “Impress” literally means to engrave/stamp. Engraving is not a casual thing… it’s purposeful
Deuteronomy 6:7-9 - Faith isn’t taught… it’s caught. (conversations, car rides, dinners, connect groups, conferences)
Faith isn’t given on Sunday’s… it’s passed on minute by minute.
Judges 2:10- - But when we lose our purpose… the next generation loses more.
This is WHY ARROWS… This is why this series matters. Because the future of the church, your family, or even the future of this city depends on IF we’re shaping the next gen to follow Jesus or just hoping it all figures itself out.

You: You are part of this

You can’t change how you were aimed… good or bad. So let’s not focus on the past.
This is for all of us...
Singles: Learning this impacts how you build your life now… Aim with purpose now Mods & Dads: You’re exhausted, discouraged, wondering if you’ll even do a good job… Keep going. Aim with purpose. Mentors: You still have arrows to shape and wisdom to pass down. So get up and get involved.
Question: If someone followed your life for a year… where would they end up?

We: We’re called to do this

We need to understand this is literally our calling as the church… to raise the next generation, and the next, and the next.
Let’s be a church were... - Singles build a foundation now that others can follow later - Parents walk with confidence… NOT in yourself but in God All Mighty who gave you a purpose and put you right where He wanted you. - Mentors/Grandparents who don’t retire… they stay in the fight
