2. Beloved now we are children of God; and it is not yet been Revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, We shall be like Him,for we shall see Him as He is.
3. And everyone who has this Hope purifies himself,Just as He is pure.
The Word Behold means to See or study intently
Behold what manner of love God has bestowed on us.
God wants us to know that He loves us.
There are many places in Gods word that tells us so.
A.Its an Unmerited love,Not something we earned or deserve.
In Roman 5:6_8 it says:
English Standard Version Chapter 5
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
English Standard Version Chapter 5
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
When we were still enemies of God Christ died for us.
Down in verse 16 John tells us :
English Standard Version Chapter 3
16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us,
1 John 4:9–10 “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
of course nothing says it more than.
John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God is the initiator of this love
Jesus gave Himself for all, not because of any goodness in ourselves, but strictly based on His Love, grace and mercy.
Ephesians 2:1–6 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,”
Amen!
That we should be called children of God,
How does one become a child of God?
John 1:11–12 “He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,”
Also
Galatians 3:26 “for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.”
Ephesians 2:8–9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Acts 16:31 “And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.””
As we put our Faith in Jesus in we know we have eternal life,
1 John 5:13 “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”
We can also be assured and know we are Children of God.
Romans 8:16–17 “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”
The Holy Spirit reminds us that we are children of God.
Amen
We are adopted by the Father
Galatians 4:4–7 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
Romans 8:15 “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!””
We are Loved by God, We been adopted through Jesus and our now Sons and daughters of God. so we to can cry out Abba Father! Amen!
The world does not know us, because it did not know him..
To Know in this context has the sense to accept .
It appears in John 1:10–11 “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.”
The failure to recognize Him was based on the fact that they didn't accept him.
If the world rejects God, we know they will rejects us also.
As Followers of Jesus their should be a distinction between us and the world. We are to be in the world, but not of the world.
As believers ,we should be set apart from this world.
This is what Peter meant in
1 Peter 2:9–12 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”
1 John 3:2 “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”
Romans 8:29 “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”
1 John 3:3 “And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
