Recap

The book of Luke the Christ appears to two of His disciples. Inquires what they are talking about and why are they disheartened?

Background

Written AD 55-56 by the apostle Paul to Christians in Corinth. There was a lot of confusion in the church at Corinth (5:9-10). Paul wrote this letter to answer questions about the issues they faced, including Christian conscience, sexual conduct, spiritual gifts, love, and the resurrection. Ultimately, doctrinally…Paul defines the Gospel.

The Resurrection

1 Cor 15:1,1 Corinthians 15:2 “and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.”

The Good News (Gospel)

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,”

The Resurrected Christ

1 Corinthians 15:5–7 “and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.”
Cephas-Peter - Denied Christ
The 12 - Didn’t show at the tomb
James - Who didn’t believe Mark 6:4 “And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.”
Mark 3:20–21 “Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”
Acts 1:14 “All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.”

Not Worthy

1 Corinthians 15:8–9 “Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.”

But God

Definition of Grace: Grace is God’s attention and favor (preferred before others of the same kind) toward us, that is neither earned nor deserved.
1 Corinthians 15:10–11 “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.”
