Creating a Clean Heart: A Cry for Renewal

Bible Passage: Psalm 51:10–12

There are many situation, circumstances that can move us further from God’s will in you life. For David it became his relationship with Beersheba. This choice caused him joy and spiritual fullness. The consequences we astronomical, sin ravaged him, his action cost others life, but most all his adoration toward Beersheba placed him at a distance with God. For in this situation God became second place in David’s relation with God. I am sure that David tried every way in the world to justify his position and his relationship with Beersheba.
How easy to become caught up with business, bad relationships and not truly realize we have moved further from God. It is not until Nathan confronts David about his sins and spiritual condition. Simply David’s joy was gone and he found himself spiritually empty. The song was gone and when the joy is absent we become nothing more than a spiritual shell of what we once were.
It is at this point where David takes the steps to move closer to God, and repentance begins. As he addresses his sin and seeks repentance it appears that he desires to go deeper with his relationship with God. OH the necessity to sing with a pure song it is our purpose and God’s calling for us.
Valley’s storms and brokenness are too often humanities reality, but God calls us to much more. Throughout the history of humanity God pleads with his people wont you just come closer.

1. Create in me a pure heart

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Transform me into likeness
Allow me to see your glory
Allow me to reflect you
Transform my loyalties
My Lord First
Other fall in behind
Transform my spirit
Renew My Breath
Revive my soul

2. Come Closer...

Psalm 51:11 “Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.”
Do not cast me from presence
David experience isolation
David greatest fear forsaken by God
Do not take your Holy Spirit from
David saw what happened to Saul
No sadder commentary than the life of Saul
Don’t Leave Me

3. Restore My Joy

Psalm 51:12Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Open the floodgate of Joy
Take this sin and forgive me
Take all my iniquities and free me
Deliver me from the quilt
The bloodshed is very heavy
The guilt unbearable
Bring the song back
Open my lips so I may Praise you
More than another sacrifice
Come humbly before Him
Alfred B. Smith wrote about Fanny
Early she took to composing poetry, and though her first poems had much to do with great scripture characters, it was not until her conversion experience in 1850 that the real gift that God would use in such a mighty way became evident – that of composing the scriptural word settings for the then “new” Gospel song.
From that time on she daily went to the Holy Bible and fed her soul, beautified her mental vision, deepened her love, giving herself that grip on God, man, freedom, and immortality which was to be the support of her life down through her 95 years.
With these thoughts graven on her heart, it has so aptly been written – “She went to the altar-fires of the poet and returning with her harp of gold, she sang her songs into the souls of the wounded and healed the bruised, found the outcasts and sang them home, heard the cry of the penitent and opened mercy’s gate, listened to the Savior’s voice on Calvary’s rugged cross and wrote the words of her famous hymn, ‘I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice.’ (Draw Me Nearer)”
Fanny’s coronation was in the year 1915, when the Lord she loved and served so faithfully called her home to see Him and to be welcomed by a host whose lives had been touched and changed through her dedicated life and talent.
On her grave at Hartford is a small marker bearing the simple inscription, “Fanny Crosby – She did what she could.”
In these days the desire must be LORD Draw Me Nearer to You.
1. I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!
4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
What are you seeking God for in your life? How can you come closer to God today? What keeps you at a distance from God?
