Yahweh’s Marvelous Works

Growth in our knowledge of God
New experiences
Makes an old song new to us
Psalm 96:2-3 “Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”
Parallelism: Speak words of the excellence of God’s deliverance
From day to day
among all the peoples
Praise is to be public not private.
Parallelism: Marvelous work of salvation
Psalm 96:4 “For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.”
| High point on a scale of extent
Psalm 96:5 “For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.”
Psalm 96:6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.”
Splendor/Strength: Exert & withstand force
Earth travels through space at 19 miles per second (SMC to Topeka). That is 67K miles per hour (2.6 times around the earth).
That’s the power behind God saying He is your helper.
*Heb 13, Yah helper
Hebrews 13:6 “So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?””
Majesty/Beauty: Instills awe
| Puzzle- Something perfect and complete cannot be added to.

Yahweh’s Splendor

vv. 7-9
Psalm 96:7–8 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!”
Give; praise, i.e., speak words of the greatness of God.
Psalm 96:7–8 “Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!”
We cannot give these! Put for praise.
Great impressiveness | noteworthy
Psalm 96:7–8 “Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!”
Deserving of respect, attention, & obedience
Response
Psalm 96:7–8 “Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!”
Giving to God rather than our coming to God to get something
Psalm 96:9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!”
Bow as a sign of honor and homage.
Psalm 96:9 “Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!”
He is not honored only because of His position but for his character.
Tremble before him

Yahweh’s Righteousness

vv. 10-13
Psalm 96:10Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.””
Not a political candidate
By magnifying the glory of Yahweh among people, we invite others to recognize and honor the splendor of God's holiness. An honor that He rightly deserves.
Psalm 96:10 “Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.””
Global warming; running out of oxygen; asteroid; etc.
Psalm 96:10 “Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.””
Fair
| American justice: better lawyer | “No justice!” (we don’t trust the system)
| Go straight or direct in the way
*Job 34, no investigation
Job 34:23–24 “For God has no need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment. He shatters the mighty without investigation and sets others in their place.”
Psalm 96:11–12 “Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy”
Rejoicing of all creation when Christ returns
*Rm 8, All creation groaning
Romans 8:19–22 “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.”
Psalm 96:13 “before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.”
He shall surely come
We must reflect on the splendor of Yahweh’s holiness to experience the joy and confidence we have in Christ.
Psalm 96:13 “before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.
