MOMMA........

I’m quite sure that we know why the things are the way they are in this world that we live in. Our disobedience started in the Paradise that God made. In the midst of that paradise was one tree that God commanded Adam and Eve, the keepers of that garden, not to eat of. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Why, oh why, did they not obey? Why couldn’t they have just watched and taken in the beauty of such a lovely place and left their mitts off of that tree? What are the consequences for not being obedient to the command of God in this situation?

God told them that in the day that they eat thereof........you shall surely die.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

It was a hard but just punishment that God put upon the man and the woman. But the punishment extended even more looking at the next few verses......

20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Innocence is now gone.....but there’s some good news here too. What could be the good news? A saviour would be born of a woman.....a pure and undefiled woman, chosen by God Himself. The sin of Adam and Eve would be undone, would be forgiven.

Mary had a baby.....and Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water. And He did.....not only did He walk on water but He caused the blind to see, the dumb to speak, the lame to walk again.....He also healed all manner of sickness and disease. That boy would grow into a man, the Son of Man and deliver all of humanity past and present to a place of repentance......getting in a right standing with The Almighty. All because a woman became a mother. Adam, Eve, what was done in that garden has been covered by the pure blood of the Almighty God, Jesus.

It would never had been possible if a woman had not become a mother........

What actions did Adam and Eve take that led to their punishment?

Why is the role of mothers highlighted in this sermon, and how can you appreciate your mother more? I can say it like this (sing): X2

“M” is for the many things she gave me.

“O” means that she’s only growing old.

“T” is for the tears she shed to save me.

“H” is for her heart as pure as gold.

“E” is for her eyes with love-light shining

“R” is for how right she’ll always be

Put them all together, they spell mother, a word that means the world to me. (Last line, X2)
