Mother’s Day 2025

There is no better way to start the celebration of mother's day by praying. So, let us pray.

The Mother's Prayer

The theme of this year's mother's day special is called "The Mother's Prayer".
Let's do definition of terms.

The Mother's Prayer

Mother - Mommy, Mama, Nanay, Inay. Along with these common nouns, I'm sure you can think of many adjectives like Nurturing, Caring, Long-Suffering, Brave, Courageous, Warrior, Radiant, Fabulous, Beautiful!
We know exactly what it means when we say Mother.
I'm conscious when it's mother's day, not everyone is completely happy with this day.
Those who lost their mother, those who did not even meet their mother, or those whose wishes that they did not meet their mother, or those waiting to be a mother particularly those who have been waiting for long.
Can we pray about this?
Father God, if there is any sadness or frustration, or bitter feelings that resurface in us because of mother's day, help us Lord to put it aside. Whatever our past, or our situation now, help us during this afternoon to focus on your message. Help us release our forgiveness, Lord, if our mother has caused us any pain. Give us comfort Lord if there is sadness lurking in our hearts. Help us that this should not prevent us from hearing and understanding what you want to tell us today. In Jesus name, Amen!

The Mother's Prayer

We already defined the word Mother. What about prayer?
What is prayer really?
Prayer is communication to God, when we present our requests, or we confess our sins that bother us, or we express our emotions that we cannot express to anyone else, or ask for comfort or peace to quiet our troubled hearts and minds, or to say our thanks and gratitude for our blessings, or to praise the Lord for the great things He has done for us. Yes, that's prayer.
So abangan po natin yan.
So sige prayer, paano ba magdasal? Jesus Himself gave us a pattern how to pray and we can learn from it.
Exodus 20:12 NKJV
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
This was Jesus speaking to his disciples who asked paano ba mag dasal.
Jesus gave us a pattern. In this pattern, it shows that we address our prayer to the Father. Now, we should not be confused. Does this mean we cannot pray to Jesus? or that we cannot pray to the Holy Spirit? Of course we can! God the Father the Creator, God The Son the Saviour, and the Holy Spirit the Enabler are one God. So yes, we can pray "Father God thank you for sending your Son Jesus", or we can say "Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross to save me", or we can say "Holy Spirit, please guide me as I get through this hard time."
Are all prayers heard by God?
Yes if and only if the person who is praying has accepted Jesus as God and as His Lord and Saviour. Let's read.
John 14:6 NKJV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
No one, as in "No one" except Jesus can intercede for us to communicate to God the father.
1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
Now ano naman ang role ng Holy Spirit when we pray?
Romans 8:26–27 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
It's the Holy Spirit that whispers to us what we should pray for. The Holy Spirit guides us how to align our prayers to God's will.
I remember when I was younger, during my early years in the workplace and where my walk with Jesus was also young, and during the time that I get stressed and getting burned out at work, I would pray 'Lord, please get me out of this dark workplace, I don't want this job anymore, please give me another job." Have you ever prayed that prayer before?
As I kept on praying and as I became more mature in my faith, the Holy Spirit changed my prayer. I instead found myself praying "Lord, my job is hard, my heart and brain are exhausted, please help me get through all these challenges. It is You Lord who gave me this job, for I did pray for this job. Help me Lord so that I can do my best to stay in this job and fulfill the plan you have for me in this workplace, until you ask me to leave. I will not leave my job, Lord, until you ask me to. Until then, help me Lord."
Do you see the difference between the 2 prayers.
Prayer is a beautiful picture. How many individuals are involved when you pray? Do you know that there are 4?
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Who are the 4 individuals involved when we pray?
1) Yung sarili natin mismo na nagdadasal
2) God the Father because we address our prayer to God the father.
3) Jesus the Son, because we pray through Jesus.
4) Holy Spirit, who lives in us, who prompts us and guides us what to pray.
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
When we pray, we pray to God the Father
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
through the name of Jesus the Son,
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
by the help of the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Let's repeat that:
When we pray, we pray to God the Father, through the name of Jesus the Son, by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Ang galing ano? Ganun pala yung picture every time nag p-pray tayo. Parang na-imagine ko parang discipleship group pala pag nagdadasal ako.
So knowing this, ang tanong...

Is it easy to pray?

There is no time: There is so much to do in so little time!
The pharaoah in Egypt during the time of Moses doubled the work of the Israelites. The pharaoh knew that making the Israelites busy means that they will have no time to pray and to gather together to pray. The enemy is doing the same to us. The enemy is making us busy, tempting us to accept job # 1, job #2, # 3 so that you earn more and so you are terribly busy that you do not have time time to pray.
Is it easy to pray?
“Busy? Yes, I am too busy NOT to pray!”
How about we say to the enemy:
"I will not give in to your scam. Right now yes I'm too busy Not to pray!"
Rest in God’s presence
Luke 10:38-42 (Mary & Martha)

Is it easy to pray?

What if the prayer is not working: I've been praying for healing for several years but I'm still sick. It's not easy to pray. So wag na mag pray, may gamot naman eh.
I've been praying for this person na magbago sya. Naku hanggang ngayon walang pagbabago. Bahala na sya sa buhay nya matanda na sya, done na ko mag pray sa kanya.
“My prayer not answered? I will continue to ask according to His will and I will wait, trusting on the Lord”.
Pray fervently, pray without ceasing .
2nd Samuel 12:16-23 (David prayed for his sick son)

Is it easy to pray?

Ano pa ba ang pwedeng reason bakit mahirap mag pray?
It's not because busy or it's not because the prayer is not answered. Ahh the reason could be...
"I have nothing to pray for. All my prayers were answered. I'm happy, I'm rich and I have the time to enjoy my wealth, I travel around to the places I want to go, I can buy the things I like, I'm strong and healthy, I have good relationship with my loved ones. I am living the dream! Wow! And so, I have nothing to pray for so I won't pray.
“Nothing to ask for? I will pray to praise and thank the Lord. I will pray for others.”
How about?
Praising and thanking God
Praying for others
Prayer of praise and gratitude
1 Samuel 2 (Prayer of Hannah)
Praying for others
Colossians 1:9-12 (Prayer of Paul for the Colossians)
~ From the book “Elijah” by Howard Hendricks
Lastly, I want to read this to you. There's this book called Elijah by Howard Hendricks and I like how he described the importance of prayer.
“Satan does not mind your witnessing, as long as you don’t pray. Because he knows that it is far more important to talk to God about men than to talk to men about God.”
“Satan does not mind you studying the Scriptures, as long as you don’t pray, for then the Word will never get into your life. You will simply develop a severe case of spiritual pride, and he loves that.”
“Satan does not mind you becoming compulsively active in your local church or in some other form of Christian work, just so you do not pray. For then you will be active, but you will not accomplish anything.”
And so with that, tara na mag dasal na po tayo.
May I call on the mothers (and fathers to go on stage) and the children (young and adults) to be in front so we can lay our hands and pray for you.
