14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
15 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
Today, we’re diving into a powerful truth: as followers of Jesus, we are called to be Presence Carriers—people who bring the atmosphere of heaven to earth.
In 2 Corinthians 2:14-15, Paul paints a vivid picture of believers as part of Christ’s victory parade, spreading the fragrance of God’s presence wherever we go.
But what does that look like in our everyday lives?
How do we live as carriers of God’s presence in a world that desperately needs it?
Our sermon today will answer three probing questions:
What do I need to know? What does it mean to be a Presence Carrier?
Why do I need to know this? What are the rewards and consequences of carrying God’s presence?
What am I being asked to do? How can I apply this in my life today?

1. Walk in Worship – Knowing God’s Presence
What do I need to know?
To be a Presence Carrier, we must first know God’s presence in our lives.
In 2 Corinthians 2:14, Paul describes believers as part of Christ’s “triumphal procession.”
In Roman culture, a triumphal procession was a victory parade where the conquering general marched through the city, surrounded by incense-bearers who spread a fragrant aroma to celebrate the victory.
Paul says we are in Christ’s parade, spreading the “aroma of the knowledge of Him” everywhere.
For Paul’s original audience, this imagery was vivid: they understood victory, celebration, and the power of a pleasing fragrance.
Today, we live in a culture filled with distractions—social media, stress, and endless noise.
Yet, the main point remains: God’s presence in us is a fragrance that transforms the atmosphere.
To carry His presence, we must first walk in worship, cultivating an intimate relationship with Him.
Connection
Connection
Psalm 16:11 “11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
Walking in worship means prioritizing time with God—through prayer, Scripture, and worship—so His presence fills us.
When we know His presence, we become vessels ready to carry it to others.

Think of a sponge.
A dry sponge can’t clean a surface because it has nothing to give.
But a sponge soaked in water overflows with every squeeze.
When we walk in worship, we’re like that soaked sponge, filled with God’s presence, ready to release it wherever we go.
2. Witness with Wisdom – Sharing God’s Presence
2. Witness with Wisdom – Sharing God’s Presence
Why do I need to know this?
Why does it matter that we carry God’s presence?
Because the world is desperate for it, and there are eternal rewards and consequences tied to how we live.
2 Corinthians 2:15 says we are “the pleasing aroma of Christ” to both those being saved and those perishing.
Our lives—our words, actions, and attitudes—either draw people toward Jesus or push them away.
Rewards
Rewards
When we witness with wisdom, we partner with God to bring hope, healing, and salvation.
Lives are changed, and we store up eternal treasure
Matthew 6:20 “20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Consequences
Consequences
If we fail to carry His presence—if we blend into the world’s negativity or hypocrisy—we risk misrepresenting Christ and missing opportunities to impact others.
Connection
Connection
Matthew 5:16 “16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Witnessing with wisdom means living intentionally—showing love, integrity, and grace in our workplaces, families, and communities.
It’s not about preaching at people but letting God’s presence flow through us naturally.

Imagine walking into a room where someone’s baking fresh cookies.
The aroma fills the air, and everyone notices.
You don’t have to announce the cookies; the fragrance does the talking.
When we carry God’s presence, it’s like that aroma—it draws people in without us forcing it.
3. Work for Transformation – Spreading God’s Presence
3. Work for Transformation – Spreading God’s Presence
What am I being asked to do?
Now that we know what it means to be Presence Carriers and why it matters, what’s the next step?
We’re called to work for transformation by actively spreading God’s presence in practical ways.
This is where the Holy Spirit moves powerfully, prompting us to obey God’s Word and make a difference.
Paul says God “uses us to spread the aroma” (2 Corinthians 2:14). This implies action—going into our schools, neighborhoods, and even online spaces to bring heaven’s hope, love, and truth.
Practical Applications - How does this look?
Practical Applications - How does this look?
Pray daily for opportunities to share God’s love. Ask the Holy Spirit to make you sensitive to others’ needs.
Serve others with kindness—help a neighbor, encourage a coworker, or volunteer in your community.
Speak life—use your words to build up, not tear down, reflecting God’s heart.
Connection
Connection
Colossians 3:17 “17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
When we work for transformation, we bring heaven to earth—one act of love at a time.

Think of a candle in a dark room. One small flame can light up the whole space. As Presence Carriers, we’re like that candle, bringing God’s light into dark places. Every kind word, every act of service, every moment of worship spreads His presence further.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Church, God has called us to be Presence Carriers, bringing heaven to earth. Today, we’ve answered three questions:
What do I need to know? Walk in worship to know God’s presence intimately.
Why do I need to know this? Witness with wisdom because your life is an aroma that impacts eternity.
What am I being asked to do? Work for transformation by spreading God’s presence through your actions.
As you leave today, commit to one practical step: maybe it’s setting aside 10 minutes daily to worship, speaking an encouraging word to someone, or serving in a new way. Let’s be the aroma of Christ in a world that needs His hope.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for making us Presence Carriers. Fill us with Your Spirit, guide us to walk in worship, witness with wisdom, and work for transformation. Use us to bring heaven to earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
