The Rejected Gospel V.6a
Nobody likes to be called out on something.
I have a good friend quick to call out my bad grammar
Exactly what THIS GOSPEL does
Therefore the cross is counted as an offensive thing. Illegal in China.
THIS GOSPEL calls men out on their sins
Selfish desires, Evil intentions, Wicked hearts; “You are a sinner!”
This Gospel calls men out on their rebellion toward the Most High.
Nobody wants to be called a traitor, especially here where patriotism is highly valued.
Loyalty is important to us (Remembering Benedict Arnold during the Revolutionary War)
We have betrayed our King! This Gospel says, “You are a traitor!”
Billy Graham once said, “We must forsake our allegiance to this world, leave behind all that it offers, and become citizens of a new Kingdom, the Kingdom of God.”
This Gospel leaves no man out
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Psalm 14:2–3 “Yahweh looks down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is anyone who has insight, Anyone who seeks after God. They have all turned aside, altogether they have become worthless; There is no one who does good, not even one.”
Tells us that we fall short completely to perfection; the Glory of God.
So we reject THIS GOSPEL
We hate it (John 3:19–20 ““And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed.” )
We want nothing to do with it / Seriousness of our rebellion
Why listen to that which makes us less than what we believe we are?
Not enough to reject THIS GOSPEL we must revise THIS GOSPEL.
The Revised Gospel V.6b - 7
Too much wrong with it, it needs to be updated
Too harsh and cruel for the world today
Need to make it easier to swallow and more comforting.
Make it fit more with the times and the culture
Too simple and needs a few more rules.
Surely receiving God’s grace is more difficult than faith
The sermon that converted Charles Spurgeon was from Isaiah 45:22 ““Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.”
As simple as a look
We seek out others who will teach this revised gospel.
The revised gospel: God saves all!
No sin —- No cross
No redemption/ No salvation
No need for any of this for mankind is essentially good
No Christ!
Only Jesus, a good teacher, and nothing more. (Devils most damning lie)
“Who wants to think about eternity?” They are concerned with the here and now
There is a sense of universalism in their soteriology.
That God is good and that God is love and would not allow for someone like me to burn in Hell for all eternity.
That would be contradicting to who God is so God must save everyone, no strings attached. (They fail to recognize His holiness)
That gospel has no weight to it.
The winds blow and the storms of life hit hard and that gospel is blown away
Nothing of real substance for the heart that longs for God.
Like taking cough medicine while you have the flu.
Helps a symptom but not the underlying problem. (Guilt)
Leaves us to battle our cancer on our own.
Jesus is nothing more than a sympathetic prophet with no power
No power to heal our brokenness
No power to restore all that we have lost and bring home our drifting souls
The religion of “I am a good person”
My deeds will redeem me
What the Galatians faced, Jewish law.
This is man’s gospel, not God’s, which is the real deal
The Real Gospel V.8-9
Comes from God — Reject it or Revise it, does not change it.
John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
Origin — God
Action — In love He gave His Son/ Our Savior/ A sacrifice
Recipient — Those who believe and their reward
Refuser — Those who reject and their punishment
It is trustworthy; It is true
Not angels nor any revelation outside of the Scriptures
Mohammad said he saw an angel and so did Joseph Smith
2 Corinthians 11:14–15 “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.”
Repent from your sins and be redeemed by THIS GOSPEL
This is the Redeeming Gospel
Romans 1:16–17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous will live by faith.””
The only one that can save you from your sins.
