Today I want to start with a reading of Scripture from the Prophet
Jeremiah 17:5–8 “Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.””
Jeremiah 17:9–14 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” Like the partridge that gathers a brood that she did not hatch, so is he who gets riches but not by justice; in the midst of his days they will leave him, and at his end he will be a fool. A glorious throne set on high from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be put to shame; those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water. Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.”
Lets pray, Father God in heaven, we give you all the praise for giving us your only Son , Jesus Christ. By Jesus becoming sin for us and paying the ransom for us on the cross, for we can be planted in the house of the Lord, that we will flourish in your courtyard Lord God, that we will stay fresh and green proclaiming “ The Lord is Upright; He is my Rock and there is no wickedness in him”. Thank you Jesus for your precious blood that was shed on the cross, for all of us here today, and for all those whom take refugee in your mighty name Lord, Holy Spirit take over my mind and this message, use my tongue to give your word God in the name above all, Jesus Christ , Amen.
A man i respect deeply has a saying, “There is two types of people in the world, only two. There are those in recovery and those that should be.”
It kind of makes me chuckle every time he said it, however the more i study the Word, how true that statement really is.
As the Lord said through the prophet Jeremiah , we are either blessed trusting the Lord or we are cursed trusting in man.
Last time i was here we read from the gospel of John, and today i would to continue in john in chapter 15. Because Jesus makes a distinction between two kinds of people.
Lets read John 15:1–2 ““I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”
Are you bearing fruit, If so , thats awsome! Your in recovery, Gods been pruning you, He loves you. Your alive, your a branch recieveing living water from the true vine , Jesus.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Gods purpose for us is to be a branch, and not just any branch, a fruit bearing branch. What this means is you have confesssed Jesus Christ as Lord, your personal savior, that He died on the cross for you personaly. And walking it out in faith
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
Now there are many otu there whom think they are a vine, building false doctrine, practicing things that can only be discribed as pure wickedness and evil. fruitless Im sure we can all think of some. They are also a branch however God will cut them off.
