Maturing Into Motherhood

Bible Passage: Lk 1:34–38

1. Reaction

Luke 1:34–35 KJV (WS)
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
This shows that Mary was a good listener . Mary knew she was "espoused" to Joseph .
The term "espoused" has multiple meanings and uses. In its verb form, it can mean to marry, or to take up and support a cause[1]. Historically, it has been used to signify both marriage and betrothal, though modern translations often distinguish between the man and woman.
This hesitation is not disbelief but an honest inquiry into God's promise. The power of the Holy Spirit, mentioned here, shows that God’s plans often surpass human limitations. we, like Mary, may face uncertainties that challenge our understanding, but through faith, these obstacles can become opportunities for God's work in our lives.
We have been set up so that through our faith God can show off. We can see that all things are possible when we believe . We are called to Trust God and lean not to our own limited understanding.in all our ways acknowledge him and He will bring it to pass.
Mary knew she was "espoused" to Joseph and if she broke this marriage contract she could be exposed and stoned.
.Its clear that the conception proceeded from grace alone, not from merit: the angel’s words showed that since the conception was of the Holy Spirit, it came about by grace alone, being preceded by no merit of any man. This reason is Augustine’s. The third is the operative power of the Holy Spirit: the conception came about by the power and working of the Spirit:
Why is this so important?
Satan tricked Eve A Woman brought sin into the world and Gods Grace Chose Mary A woman to carry and give birth to Salvation.

2. Response

Luke 1:36–37 KJV (WS)
And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Why bring up Elisabeth?
Elizabeth's miraculous pregnancy serves to strengthen Mary's faith. It demonstrates how God’s power is not limited by human conditions, and 'nothing is impossible with God,' reinforcing our trust in His omnipotence.
Share examples of modern 'miracles' or seemingly hopeless situations that changed through faith.

Miracles are not meant to be understood, they are meant to be believed.

Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature.
Saint Augustine of Hippo
The greatest of all miracles is the salvation of a soul.
Charles Spurgeon

3. Reception

Luke 1:38 KJV (WS)
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
faith often demands surrender.
Mary had a positive attitude.
Yes, both attitude and mindset significantly influence reactions. Attitude refers to a general way of thinking or feeling about something, while mindset is a more ingrained set of beliefs about oneself and the world. These internal states shape how we interpret situations and respond to them, influencing our emotional and behavioral reactions. Here's a more detailed breakdown:1. How Attitude and Mindset Shape Reactions:
Attitude:.A positive attitude, for example, can lead to a more optimistic and resilient response to challenges. Conversely, a negative attitude might result in a more reactive or pessimistic response.
Mindset:.A "growth mindset" (believing that abilities can be developed) leads to a more persistent and adaptive approach to challenges compared to a "fixed mindset" (believing abilities are innate).
2. Examples:
Facing a challenge:Someone with a positive attitude might see a setback as an opportunity for learning and growth, while someone with a negative attitude might be easily discouraged.
Responding to feedback:A person with a growth mindset is more likely to view constructive criticism as a chance to improve, or to prove that faith in God along with
We have always done it this way…. A fixed mind set.

Exalting Jesus in Luke Mary’s Faith (1:38)

What must Mary have thought about the Lord’s plan? The only way a person can genuinely say what Mary says is to believe that God’s plan is better than our plans for ourselves. When Mary responds in faith, she faces the potential of public shame.

Where have we seen this type of submission
Luke 22:42 KJV (WS)
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
