The New Man In the Renewed Church!

Colossians 3:12-25

Colossians 3:12–25 “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children,…”

Clothed in Christ: The Call to Renewed Living

Bible Passage: Colossians 3:12-25

In Colossians 3:12-25, Paul encourages the church to embody their new identity in Christ by practicing virtues such as compassion, kindness, humility, and love, while also fulfilling their social responsibilities in relationships, whether in the household or in broader society.
The sermon will teach that being renewed in Christ means more than just personal transformation;
The Church are called to live out their new identity in Christ through their behaviors, interactions, and responsibilities within their families and workplaces.
This passage emphasizes Christ as the foundation for our identity and behavior.
The virtues mentioned are characteristic of Christ Himself and serving others as He did embodies the essence of the Gospel.
Christ is not only the source of redemption but also the model for living in a renewed community.
Living as a redeemed community in Christ requires us to put on virtues that reflect Him, fostering unity and love in our relationships as we fulfill our duties towards one another with humility and grace.
What is Paul talking about? The Church! This is the renewed community!

1. The “Church” must be clothed in compassion and love!

Colossians 3:12-14
How can our church live out these verses that call us as believers to embody a new identity in Christ through virtues such as compassion, kindness, humility, and love?
These qualities are reflections of Christ's character and form the foundation for Christian community.
In a world where relationships can be challenging, this passage provides practical guidance for overcoming pride and fostering genuine unity and affection among believers.

2. The “Church” must cultivate Christ's peace!

Colossians 3:15-17
Let us focus on letting the peace of Christ rule in our hearts influences our community living and worship.
Christ has to permeate our life! He does this through the saturation of the word of Christ! “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly!”
These verses emphasize thankfulness and the importance of Christ-centered teaching and mutual encouragement.
Scripture not only suggests that our actions and words are to be done in the name of Jesus, reflecting His presence and peace through our worship and daily communication… He commands it!

3. The “Church” must commit to family harmony!

Colossians 3:18-21
Perhaps we should focus on the reminder that God commands us to be respectful and loving in our relationships within the family unit
How does Christ's love, underscore the importance of harmony and understanding within the church?
And Within households?
This is truly countercultural in nature of these teachings in both first-century and modern contexts, promoting humility and sacrificial love as central to fulfilling family duties.

4. The “Church” must contribute through sincere service!

Colossians 3:22-25
How should believers approach work and social duties with sincerity and reverence for the Lord.
These verses remind us that their ultimate accountability is to Christ!
Our work ethics and relationships with others are acts of worship and testimony to their faith.
Paul is encouraging a Christ-centered approach to all responsibilities, aligning daily activities with God’s purposes.
Conclusion: This passage helps the church to understand their identity in Christ and motivates them to live out their faith through actions that reflect Jesus’ love and grace in all areas of life, particularly in their relationships.
It encourages believers to strive for humility and genuine love, providing practical steps to address struggles such as conflict, pride, and indifference.
