THE HEART OF A GODLY MOTHER

Sermon Title: The Heart of a Godly Mother
Big Idea:
A godly mother reflects the love, wisdom, and faithfulness of God, shaping generations through her quiet strength and faithful presence.
Genesis 1:27 – So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
While God is our heavenly Father He created woman is His image as well
Genesis 2:24 – That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Through marriage – one man one woman – we complete the image of God – man posses certain aspects of God and woman others – today we will talk about how the heart of a Godly Mother lives out these different aspects.
Let us pray!
Point 1: A Mother’s Love Mirrors God’s Unfailing Love
Illustration: Imagine the first time a child scrapes their knee. It’s the mother who comes running with comfort, not just bandages. Just as a mother knows her child’s cry, so God hears ours.
Scripture:
Isaiah 66:13a – “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you...”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – Love is patient, kind, and enduring.
Love is patient and
kind;
love does not envy or
Love does not boast;
Love is not arrogant or rude.
Love does not insist on its own way;
Love is not irritable or resentful;
Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
2 Corinthians 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction,
Reflection Questions:
1. Who in your life has shown you God’s comfort through their love?
2. How have you experienced God's love through the people around you?
Point 2: A Mother’s Wisdom Shapes Destiny
Illustration: Thomas Edison once said, “My mother was the making of me.” When the world saw his failures, she saw his potential. That kind of wisdom believes in God’s future for a child.
Scripture:
Proverbs 31:26 – “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
Paul commends the sincere faith of Timothy’s mother and grandmother.
James 3:17 – But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
Reflection Questions:
What wisdom has been passed down to you that shaped your journey?
What legacy are you leaving through your words and actions?
What did your mom see in you that you did not see at first?
Point 3: A Mother’s Faith Builds Spiritual Foundations
Illustration: A mother kneeling by her child’s bedside, whispering prayers night after night—those prayers are unseen seeds that bear fruit in God's time. Faith-filled mothers build altars in the home.
Scripture:
Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 31:30b – Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Luke 1:38 – Mary’s response of faith: “Let it be to me according to your word.”
2 Timothy 1:5 – I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
2 Timothy 3:14-15 – But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Reflection Questions:
How is your faith shaping the people around you?
Are there unseen ways you’re building spiritual legacy?
Final Summary:
A godly mother reflects God's heart:
Her love comforts like His love.
Her wisdom guides like His Word.
Her faith inspires like His promises.
Let us honor the mothers who mirror God’s character – biological mothers or for those that have been a mother to the mother to the motherless or mother-abandoned, and let all of us—whether mothers, sons, daughters, or spiritual parents—carry forward that same legacy of love, wisdom, and faith.
Closing Call to Action:
Honor the mothers in your life today. Let their example point you toward deeper love for God and others.
