Introduction

The fact is that we are in a battle and we fall short because all too often we don’t understand our enemies or the nature our fight. On Tuesday night we were able to look at our creation narrative which outlines the source of humanity and what relationships were broken when we rebelled against the Lord God.
We arrived at the conclusion that we were made in His image and likeness to point toward Him, give Him glory and to act as His representatives in Creation.
In short, we were made to co-rule with Him under His guidance.
(Genesis 1:28 “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”” )
We also arrived at the conclusion that because of our rebellion Sin corrupts all of creation and we released dominion to the Accuser. There were also

1 Peter 2:2–3 “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”
Galatians 5:17 “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.”
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Hebrews 10:25 “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Life in the Spirit
Ephesians 2:3 “All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”
Romans 13:13–14 “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Galatians 5:22–23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Devotion to the Word of God
Proverbs 4:7 “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
What does all this result in?
Ability to engage in spiritual warfare
Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Ability to identify and function in our spiritual gifts
Romans 12:6 “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;”
We become an effective tool for the Kingdom of Light
Ephesians 4:14 “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”
Ephesians 4:11–12 “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up”
Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
Romans 5:20 “The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,”
