Activity:
2 teams. Line up. Face one another. First team says something in creation that starts with the letter A like “Apple” then team two says something that starts with letter B.
We are going to go back and forth. You have 7 seconds to name something.
If you can’t name something with the letter you have in 7 seconds than you are out.
Once we’ve done all the letters that’s round 1 and the time will go down to 4 seconds.
If we do another round, you’ll have 2 seconds.
Once something is named, it cannot be said again.

transition:
This is a simple game, but it shows us all that God has made.
The focus of this morning is God created all things, and all His creation was very good.
I need a volunteer
Ok… I need you to take out your phone real quick and google “Cake Recipe”
ok, now that you’ve got the recipe, I need you to stand here and make us a cake while I teach this morning.
Read Gen. 1:31, “And God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning - the sixth day.”
How is the cake coming along?
What’s missing in your cake baking process here?
oven, ingredients, bowl, mixer, … there’s lots of things missing.
We know, It is impossible to make something out of nothing.
For us, everything that is we see is created out of something.
There are raw materials that are used for everything that man makes.
However, at some point, if you ask “Well, where did that come from?” enough times, you come to either it just exploded into being from nothing, or a designer created these raw materials out of nothing.
Either way, something came from nothing.
Did nothing create something or did something create something?
This morning I’d like us to read Genesis 1:1-31.
I’d like us to pay attention to not just what God created, but how He did it, how He ordered it, How he paid attention to details.
After reading Gen. 1, what are some observations you have about what God made, how He did it, and other details?
God created out of nothing… ex Nihilo.
There was a time hills didn’t exist, mountains were gone, oceans were empty, and no stars shined.
Everything we see, from Gen. 1, came from God’s mind, imagination, will, and desires.
He created things with purpose for Himself.
This means, everything created has a sense of purpose and meaning.
This also means when we see creation and believe something has no purpose or meaning, we distort God’s creation, we lose a key component of why it exists in the first place.
What happens when people believe something was made without purpose?
uhh the answers are infinte.
When you take sin + humans + no purpose = infinite problems.
How did God create though? What was his method?
He spoke.
Who was there at creation?
Genesis 1:1 “1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:2 “2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
John 1:1–5 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:14 “14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
The trinity is present at creation - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Knowing that God, (Father, Son, and Spirit) were all involved in creation is powerful to consider!
They were all involved in creating the universe and all the beauty that’s in it.
There is also marks of God throughout His creation.
When we look at creation, we see the glory of God.
What parts of creation bring you joy and make you want to praise God?
Water in general always points me to Jesus.
Walking in the mountains and coming to a waterfall at the end of the trail, man, I love that.
There is life in that place. The smells, the roar of the water, the beautiful landscape always make me praise God.
The Ocean
The pure vastness of the ocean always points me back to God.
I laugh too when I think about Space travel, because there is still more than 90% of our oceans that we haven’t explored.
There is still much to give God glory for on our own planet that we haven’t even found yet.
Creation is intended to bring God glory, honor, and praise.
What else did God create?
God created all things, and it was very good.
Let’s discuss this a little further in small groups this morning.
