Mother
Mother
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously,
But thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands;
And let her own works praise her in the gates.
Mom’s certainly deserve a day… actually, Moms deserve a month.
look what we have learned all that we learned from our moms.
It was from our mothers that we learned about anticipation when she would say to us, “You just wait until your father gets home.”
It was from our mothers that we learned about logic when she would say to us, “Because I said so, that’s why.”
Our mothers also taught us about foresight when they would tell us, “Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.”
Our mothers taught us how to become adults when they said, “If you don’t eat your vegetables you will never grow up.”
They taught us about genetics. “You are just like your father.”
They taught us about irony. “Keep crying and I will give you something to cry about.”
They taught us about stamina when they said, “You will sit there until all of that spinach is finished.”
They taught us about weather. “It looks like a tornado swept through your room.”
They taught us about the circle of life. “I brought into this world and I can take you out.”
It was our mothers who first taught us about prayer. “You had better pray that will come out of the carpet(couch).”
Of course it was our mothers who taught us about justice when they said, “One day you will have kids and I hope they turn out just like you. Then you will see what it is like.
Mother’s are important.
It’s mothers who form the spiritual foundation in their children.
Now, we live in a time when a lot of mother’s are abandoning their duties as a mom. They are neglecting and even abandoning their kids. In our culture today, some just want someone to love them while they do their own thing and try to find themselves. So some are not fulfilling the very special role God has for them.
We don’t have any mother’s here like that nor did most of us have a mom like that. When you have a woman who will use the awesome influence she has to lay a godly foundation, you have a special combination. That’s why Proverbs 31:28 says “28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
Proverbs 31:29 “29 Many daughters have done virtuously, But thou excellest them all.” Proverbs 31:30 “30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”
That’s why Paul wrote to Timothy about the impact that his grandmother and mother had on his life. Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:5–7 “5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
So apparently Timothy came to faith because of the influence of his grandmother and mother. His grandmother passed it on to his mother who then passed it on to Timothy.
Mother’s even when your children may have wandered off for a while. It does not mean that they will stay away forever. Proverbs 22:6 “6 Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
You mothers who have made the sacrifices to impact your children and grand children… don’t quit. Keep going!
Biblical, Godly Mothers
Biblical, Godly Mothers
What the Bible has for us
Just opening God’s Word and letting Him speak to you, to us, today
So much of this is also directed at fathers,
GODLY MOTHERS ARE
Available
Available
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 “6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”
Morning, noon, night
Biblical, Godly moms are “always available”
Involved
Involved
Titus 2:4 “4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,”
Involved in the lives of their children, husbands
“Love” here - “liking,” enjoying being around, the days spent with meaningful activity that is enjoyable
Teaching
Teaching
Proverbs 1:8 “8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother:”
READ verses 7-9
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge:
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father,
And forsake not the law of thy mother:
9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head,
And chains about thy neck.
Mothers are teachers
Teaching WHAT?
Teaching is easy if you teach kids to just go along with the world…
TEACHING WHAT?
Scripture
Isaiah 54:13 “13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; And great shall be the peace of thy children.”
The Biblical worldview ( Gospel Of Christ)
Teach daughters how to be a godly woman, wife and mother
Teach Sons to be godly men, husband and dad
Training
Training
Romans 12:6 “6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;”
Mothers help their children discover and use their gifts and strengths, for the glory of the LORD
They need your spiritual encouragement
Disciplining
Disciplining
Proverbs 19:18 “18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, And let not thy soul spare for his crying.”
Kids don’t just “turn out OK”
If you are not disciplining them, then they will learn what the world wants them to learn
So, YOUR kids need you to discipline them
Our Lord disciplines us because He love us and wants us to do what is right - same for a mother and her child
Nurturing
Nurturing
They need your words of support
Acceptance, Affection, encouraging
Ephesians 6:4 “4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
Modeling life with Integrity
Modeling life with Integrity
Integrity = living what you say
Modeling the behavior you desire to see in your sons and daughters
(You must decide what that behavior is)( godly behavior)
Proverbs 10:9 “9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”
God knows your heart
Your children KNOW, too - they DO
Focus on inner beauty
Focus on inner beauty
Proverbs 31:30 “30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”
Its what inside that matters - having the Holy Ghost living inside - how beautiful is that
Yes, God says to care for the temple of the Lord, your body
1 Corinthians 6:19 “19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
But what is truly attractive is the INNER beauty of a woman who loves the LORD
A mother who loves the LORD - MORE than she loves her husband and children
That is an amazingly attractive woman
Focus on the spiritual!
This beauty NEVER fades - NEVER
FINALLY - FOR MOTHERS, and ALL OF US
Be forgiving
Be forgiving
Mothers - your children will likely hurt you
Your husbands will mess up
You will get plentiful opportunities to forgive
All of us - forgiveness is most difficult, and an important aspect of a faithful Christian walk
To not forgive, knowing that Jesus told us to forgive, is to tell Jesus NO
IF you strive to do all these, to be the Godly mother - wouldn’t it be nice to have an example?
IF you strive to do all these, to be the Godly mother - wouldn’t it be nice to have an example?
Jesus demonstrated every one of these
Aren’t you glad He did?
Especially the forgiving one?
He forgave, and it was not easy
Ask Him, and He says YES
It took work for Him to forgive - He finished that work on the cross
So…how many mothers strive for this biblical excellence in motherhood
I don’t know, neither do you
The only one you know about is you
Mothers who are working hard at this - prayerfully keep going
These all help you grow, spiritually, closer to the LORD
And yes, your children know if this is you
AND…for mothers who truly desire to raise Godly children, the NUMBER ONE aspect of your life, that children see EVERY day…
I want to thank all the godly mothers here to day
thank you for all you do for your families -
We have a small gift for you
