1 Corinthians 6:12-20

1 Corinthians 6:12
Because of Grace, though all things are lawful for me like eating what I want. I need to develop discernment as to whether this consumption of food is profitable for me. Is my excessive eating profitable for my spiritual life? I struggle with my gluttony. Obesity leads to several medical conditions like heart disease, fatty liver disease, cancer. I need to pray about how I can not allow this sin to master me. Phrased another way that I would not be in bondage to this form of wickedness. I need to petition the Father to have the Holy Spirit work with me to develop self control in the kitchen especially at my most vulnerable time at night before I go to bed.
In context, The Body is the Lord’s and deals with sensuality, however sin is sin. I will allow God to speak to me about my gluttony.
1 Corinthians 6:13
Here in God’s word we clearly see that our bodies are for the Lord. Our purpose is to glorify Him. The Corinthians were dealing with sensuality. I’m dealing with gluttony. One day food will not exist nor will the stomach. For me, that day cannot come soon enough. The body was never intended to be for sin (immorality). Eating excessively does not honor God nor does it glorify Him. That’s all that He wants. He wants His glory exulted. We can glorify God if we please Him. I don’t think losing 65 lbs, will bring Him glory. Developing self control will bring Him glory because we will have developed the fruit of the Spirit. Our bodies are for the Lord. If we struggle with obesity, then we need to think seriously about what we are consuming in the amount of calories and the quality of the food we eat. Although not in this verse, portion control is key. I’m finding if I focus on portion control it’s a lot easier to not gain extra pounds. Exercise will help with taking the weight off.
1 Corinthians 6:14
When the Father raised Jesus from the dead, He displayed a power that all of us will experience one day. One day the Father will raise us to glory. I look forward to the rapture. Meeting the Savior will truly be special to have the chance to fall down before Him and worship His glory. Amen.
1 Corinthians 6:15
I’ve read that if one surrenders his body to the Lord each morning, he will treat his body differently.
Proverbs 23:20-21
One consequence of gluttony is that it will lead to poverty. Note: Especially in retirement. Drowsiness will clothe one with rags. Ask God for deliverance from this horrible end for the glutton.
These verses say that gluttony is to be taken so seriously that you take drastic measures to avoid it, like stabbing a knife into your own gullet…
Philippians 3:19
The opening of this verse clearly points out that the glutton’s end will be destruction. How can I avoid the terrible end of destruction. So we have the consequences of poverty and destruction.
Proverbs 25:16
Referring to honey, we are to eat only what we need. I believe the same can be said of our daily bread. We are not to eat so much that we are stuffed and sick.

Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. It’s important to note that we have received the Holy Spirit from God as a gift to be with us forever. Because we’ve been bought with a price, the command is that we are to glorify God in our bodies.
