Ruth passed on a legacy of faith through her commitment to the Lord, her dependence on His grace, and her testimony of His redemption.

A Legacy of Committed Faith

Ruth 1:15–18 NASB95
15 Then she said, “Behold, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and her gods; return after your sister-in-law.” 16 But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. 17 “Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the Lord do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you and me.” 18 When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more to her.
Ruth found herself in a desperate situation. The easy answer would have been to return to her own family and gods. Instead, she declared her allegiance to Naomi and the God of Israel.
The story starts with famine in the “house of bread.” It continues with deep sorrow over the loss of Elimelech, Mahlon, and Chilion.
In spite of grief, Ruth expressed her faith in the God of Israel through total commitment.
This commitment involved a new home, a new people, a new worship, and loyalty until death!

A Heritage of Seeking God’s Favor

Ruth 2:2 NASB95
2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”
God works behind the scenes of life’s decisions.
Those who seek the blessing (grace and favor) of the Lord will find Him leading their steps.
God’s grace was poured out on her by her finding favor on Boaz’s field.
Hen = God’s favor.
Record how the Lord has shown you favor throughout your life!

A Testimony of Redemption

Boaz performs the right of redemption. He is the family redeemer (kinsman).
The Lord Jesus Christ has redeemed us out of our distress and given us a heritage in the family of God.
What is your testimony of redemption?
