Luke 12:32–45 ESV

32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 35 “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, 36 and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. 38 If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! 39 But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” 41 Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?” 42 And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? 43 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 44 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.

The Mindset of a MANAGER: a biblical steward operates differently to a worldly owner.

What is the difference?

Its a fresh…..Biblical perspective.

A steward stands ready to do what is necessary: like Jesus describes to his listeners “must be ready” Must be prepared” “must have something to show” for when the master returns.

A steward has a perspective that GOD OWNS EVERYTHING (part 1)

Which means everything i OWN… HE REALLY OWNS.

and my ROLE.. is as the GREEK describes, is that of a manager

Oikonomos: a household estate manager, administrator… person simply (not an owner) but in charge of what the MASTER OWNS:

Did you realize that about the God given resources in your life…. that they have simply been placed IN your life for your use… for the master, until he comes back…. or when you go back to him (thats the promise of HEAVEN).

What does this result in… a difference perspective: or revelation.. which is really what the bible calls a NEW MINDEST. or a RE-NEWED MIND.

A couple of key verses here:

Romans 12:1–3 ESV

1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Ephesians 4:21–25 ESV

21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

I want to today talk to you about the MANAGER MINDSET / Which is unique in the world: but alive in the kingdom

Its amazing how much our mindset… what our MINDS ARE SET ON… affects the way we live our life… wouldnt you agree?

we have to be careful of what we allow to form our minset: our understanding

things like

Negativity

un-forgiveness

gossip

slander

doubt.

fear

anxiety

a sense of hopelessness

These are worldly things that bring about a worldy MINDSET: a slavery mindset. always slave to something!

These are what the world wants to put into us and make us have a worldy mindset. but the bible talks about a mind thats SET on and in the things of God, constantly being renewed by the power of the holy spirit and overcoming in JESUS name.

I wonder what your mindset is in life?

SLAVE? or SON?

Galatians 4:4–7 ESV

4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

Romans 8:14 “14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

Romans 8:15 “15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!””

Romans 8:16 “16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,”

The reason there is a stirring in your heart when you read the bible and you see the biblical mandate to become a manager of the household of Gods estate, to take responsibility is because the HOLY SPIRIT is stirring in you the witness you have. That you are a child of God. What a powerful revelation

And John… who knew this deeply in his life writes this towards the end of his life:

1 John 3:1 ESV

1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

THIS IS THE MANAGER MINDSET.

is it a mindset thats an overcoming one, a positive one, a blessed mindset, a mind thats sure of your salvation and your place in Gods family. You dont have to earn it, you are it. You are the one God has chosen for your marriage, your family, your job, your business, your kids…..

WE HAVE A CHOICE: a mindset of the world: that of a slave or a mindset of a son, which is free and dedicated to the fathers business… the household of faith.. the estate of the kingdom of God/

WE HAVE THE CHOICE: so what will it be?

Take a look at some verses: the bible tells us to do this, to make this choice to set it

1 Chronicles 22:19 ESV

19 Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the Lord.”

Matthew 16:23 ESV

23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

1 Peter 1:13 ESV

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Now as we look towards stewardship: this is what the bible says to do “understand” somethings.

SO HOW DO WE HAVE THIS MANAGER MINDSET:I ave a few thoughts for you today: Mindset shift.

From a slave to a son. A son cares because a son is a generational owner and given responsibility.

If my son doesn’t take care of my stuff what am I teaching him about stewardship?

How do we have a manager mindset:

Who are waiting … who are in position - as one CALLED to be there

WERE CALLED TO BE MANAGER’s

Not just users,

Not just consumers

Not just taking up whats being produced…

but a greater level of responsibility

but managers….

This is the most important part: Calling & then Conviction.

We need a fresh understanding.

Understand and believe that your called

and allow that calling, to become your conviction.

If you feel called to something, you will have the conviction to work at it, to be effective in it… and to be able to complete the assignment.

2.WE MUST BE AWARE & PREPARED

of what? OF HOW MUCH IS GIVEN TO US

Your not responsible for what someone else has. Only what you have

Dont take the bait of comparison. Be aware of what you HAVE. and prepare yourself

Doesn’t take long to look around and see that God has placed you in a position of management. 

3.WISE & FAITHFUL WITH OPPORTUNITY

Use your opportunity wisely.

(Be faithful with what you have).

were going to get into this next week. but management is not a static position - its an active one.

English Standard Version Chapter 12

It takes work, it takes showing up, it takes doing, it takes what the bible describes faithfulness.

It takes doing it GODS WAY.

God has a stewardship instruction manual right here. its called his word. every obstacle in your steewardship becomes an opporutinuty when the word is applied.
