Welcome back - hope all had a good week

How did you see God move this week?

We have come full circle.

At the start I asked - “What are we here for?”

What are we here for?

Isaiah 43:7 ESV

7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

We were created for God’s glory

So the question is, how do we glorify God?

What is your list?

I believe it can be broken down into 2 areas:

Knowing Him

Making Him Known

It starts with knowing - and moves to making known

We started with the Names of God.

Do you remember any of them?

Yahweh - Jehovah

Elohim - Creator

El Roi - God who sees

El Elyon - God most high

El Shaddai - God almighty

Jehovah Jireh - Lord our provider

Jehovah Nissi - Lord our banner

Jehovah Shalom - Lord is our peace

Adonai - Proclaiming His lordship

Know Him

Knowing Him causes a Response

That response is :

Isaiah 6:5 ESV

5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Isaiah 6:8 ESV

8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Respond with humility and worship

Respond with making Him known

22 So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for “ ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “ ‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ 29 Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” 32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.” 33 So Paul went out from their midst. 34 But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

What do we know?

Everyone is religious and seeking

Acts 17:22–23 ESV

Every one is seeking, looking for answers -

Where did I come from, Why am I here, Where am I going?

We know these answers by knowing God - God who sees, God Almighty, Provider, Peace, Creator

What do we know?

2. God is nearer than we think

Acts 17:27 ESV

27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,

What do we share?

The greatness of God - He is Creator

Acts 17:24 ESV

24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man,

What do we share?

The goodness of God - He is Provider

Acts 17:25 ESV

25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.

What do we share?

The government of God - He is Ruler.

Acts 17:26 ESV

26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,

What do we share?

The grace of God - He is Savior

Acts 17:30–31 ESV

30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

Know Him Make - Him Known

We can do all of this but still not reach that person

32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.” 33 So Paul went out from their midst. 34 But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

Know Him Make - Him Known

The response is not up to us - we are called and commanded to:

Know Him and Make Him known

“So if you turn one to Christ, that one may turn a hundred; they may turn a thousand, and so the stream, small at first, goes on broadening and deepening as it rolls toward eternity.” — Dwight L. Moody

Know Him Make - Him Known

We are only responsible to be obedient

The question is:

Will I know Him more so I can share more of Him?
