The passage consists of teaching statements one to three verses long that begin with commands related to either things that must be done or that must be avoided. The statements often end with a formulaic pronouncement grounding the holiness principles in Yahweh’s divine authority
Leviticus is a book in the Bible that outlines laws and rituals concerning worship, sacrifices, purity, and social behavior, primarily focused on the Israelites' relationship with God and how they should live a holy life
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
Round: H5362 (Naqaph) :To strike with more or less violence by implication of attack.
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
Cuttings: H8296 (seret) : an incision
Print: H5414 (nathan) : to give (put,make,etc)
Marks: H7085 (an incisian or gash)
This is talking about body disfigurement because it contradicts the general idea of not disrupting the normal order of creation.
These “extended” commandments were put into place to separate pagan rituals from the Israelite
In the ancient Near East, body markings, including tattoos and cutting the flesh, were commonly used in religious rituals, particularly during mourning periods, to honor deities or express devotion.
This is showing that they used it as a false idol. instead of following Gods commandments, they were using these practices as sort of a “sacrifice” or way to express their faith when this isnt God’s word.
Do you believe your tattoos make you closer to God?
Do you believe your tattoos are honoring Gods word?
No? Lets look from the other point of view?
Are your tattoos separating or interfering with your relationship with Christ?
Tattoos are expensive, are they causing you to not be able to provide for your family or handle your finances?
Tattoos in my life a for vanity purposes, I like the way the look, and I am fascinated with the art aspect of it.
For me they are no different than wanting to wear nice clothes and things like that.
The Padaung women of Myanmar were famous for stretching their necks—by means of coiled brass neck rings—to a length of about 15 inches (38 cm), pushing down the collarbone, compressing the rib cage, and pulling up about four thoracic vertebrae into the neck.
So long story short no tattoos are not a symbol for the mark of the beast.
Im not saying tattoos are not a sin, because im really not sure as of right now.
Even if they are, it is no different than lying and stealing etc etc. The only difference is they cant be washed off.
But I know for a fact that I dont use my tattoos to “prove” my standings with Christ, I dont let them be a distraction for my Lord and Savior, and I also dont let them interfer with me providing for my family.
I look at it the way James was describing drinking alcohol last Sunday. I believe as of right now they are to be taken into moderation. Dont let them become a false idol over your life with Christ.
