Introduction:

Good Morning everyone, it is good to be here this wonderful morning to be able to come to worship God this wonderful morning today. Last we talk about the teaching of Prayer, Our points from last week were ( 1. The difference between how to pray, and praying in the wrong way, our (2 point from last was What should we be praying for, and finally our (3 point from last week was “will God answer our prayers”. This week we are going to be looking at the Model of prayer. we are really going to be looking at the design of Prayer, why we as Christians need to have an understanding of this. our Points for today are (1. A model in it’s direction, (2. Model in Reverence, (3. Model in Emphasis, and (4. Model in its Concern.
Let’s turn in our Bibles to Mt 6:9-15
Matthew 6:9–15 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Not only are we going to be looking at our main passage from Last week but we can also tie in Lk 11:2-4 with this lesson also. From this both of these passage a Christian learns what it means to pray, not everyday does someone ask teach me to pray like the disciples did when they were being taught by Jesus Christ today. As a Christian we must come to understand and recognized the importance of Pray. if you all remember from last week Prayer allows us to communicate with God.

Pray is a Model in it’s Direction:

This allow us to look at the were the Prayer is directed to whom, today many people of the world pray in some way or fashion. they even pray to other being other to God, but if you look at Mt 6:9
Matthew 6:9 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
the first key word here is to Our Father in Heaven, today people struggle with Idols like the people of Israel did during the Old Testament. they would pray to the foreign gods. we do not pray to Mary the mother of Jesus, or to any of the saints either, because they do not hear our Prayers. it is to God, and Jesus Christ who hear our prayers. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Eph 5:20
Ephesians 5:20 NKJV
20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Our Prayers go to God the Father in the name of the Son, Jesus Christ. Even Paul had to teach that to the early Church back in Ephesus. Not only should we recognize to who we are directing our Prays to, but we should also recognize to where they are going, if we look back to in our main passage in Mt 6:9 again in the second Part of verse 9 we the key word Heaven here. As Christians we come to recognize that this world was created by God, but it is not his home. We also understand that God send Jesus Christ to save the world, it through his death that we are able to come to God in Prayer. Because we should also understand that Jesus intercedes for us while we still live here on earth. our home is not this world it with God, and Jesus Christ. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Phil 3:20
Philippians 3:20 NKJV
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
again Paul reminds the early Church about how we not part of this world but have citizenship in heaven, we are just pass through. Our prayers, and our faith remind us that we are not our own. Even Jesus told his disciples rejoice. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Lk 10:20
Luke 10:20 NKJV
20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
We need to understand because of our faith in God, and in Christ leads to do their will, not our own. to point that we do not rejoice over the things within this physical world but in faith that our names are written in Heaven our spiritual home. Christ challenge all who follow to not put their faith in the treasures within the world but in treasures in Heaven. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Mt 6:20
Matthew 6:20 NKJV
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
From these verse we look at we see the importance to not to pray to those who do not hear, but we also see that this is the only way to talk to God, this is all possible because of his son Jesus Christ. Our faith, our obedience to do his will, and not our own.

A Model in it’s Reverence:

This really allow us to move to our second point today. How Prayer is a model of reverence towards God, and Christ. Now if we go back to Mt 6:9
Matthew 6:9 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
If we look at the last part of this verse here we see the key word Hallowed, which means in Greek Holy. God is our Father, our creator, and we also know that God is holy. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Ps 111:9
Psalm 111:9 NKJV
9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name.
From this verse, and from many songs we sing today in Church during worship. we sing about how Holy our God is, and how awesome our God is. we also come to recognize that if we look at the term Reverence it means to respect or love to some sacred or divine. Even Moses commanded the people to of Israel to not curse the name of God, Let’s turn in our Bibles to Ex 20:7
Exodus 20:7 NKJV
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Moses had a personal relationship with God, during the early life of Moses, God called our to Moses. God is Holy which has always been part of his being. Even Jesus Christ reminded his disciples about having the upmost respect for God, back in Mt 6, and Lk 11.

A Model in it’s Emphasis:

Now that we understand the model in sense of Reverence for God, it leads us to our 3rd point for today, A prayer model in it’s Emphasis. The reverence sets the tone to how we are to approach God within our Prayers. We must recognized that when we come to God, it is not about us, but about his will being done. Let’s look Mt 6:10
Matthew 6:10 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
In this verse here we see that Jesus Prayed about the God’s kingdom, Jesus prayed for it come. there several reasonings to behind why they prayed for this. for starters they were praying for the Church to come. which we can tie Dan 2:44
Daniel 2:44 NKJV
44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
From this verse within the Old Testament, we come to see that Daniel promise that the Messianic kingdom would com in the days of the fourth Kingdom, Roman Empire. Now if we go back in the gospel of Mt 3:2
Matthew 3:2 NKJV
2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
From this verse here we understand that John the Baptizer was preaching about the kingdom of Heaven and that the people need to repent, even we need to recognize that in order to be able to come to God we must repent also. Then we can also tie Mt 16:18
Matthew 16:18 NKJV
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
From this verse here, we see that Jesus begin to talk about building his Church, we can also go to the gospel of Mk 9:1
Mark 9:1 NKJV
1 And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”
From this verse here in the Gospel of Mark, we again come to see that Jesus begins to prepare his disciples for the Kingdom. Jesus not only prepares them but that they will be witness to this kingdom. not only that we see that Jesus mention that a power will come when the Holy Spirit came. Let us turn in our Bibles to Acts 1:6-8
Acts 1:6–8 NKJV
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
From this passage here in Acts 1, we see that the Apostles had asked Jesus if he was going to restore his kingdom here on earth, but we also see Jesus respond to his disciples here too. Jesus explains that you all will not know until it has happen, but when it does you shall receive the power of the Holy Spirit who, intercedes for through Christ when we pray to God, we also see that Jesus explains to his disciples that they shall be witnesses for him. This allows to look Acts 2:1-4
Acts 2:1–4 NKJV
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
From this passage here this was the power which Christ spoke about to his disciples. we also come to recognized that this is the day of Pentecost. The day the kingdom (Church) was established. then if we look at Acts 2:47
Acts 2:47 NKJV
47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
We come to recognized that the Kingdom (Church) came into existence, and people were being saved, thus we all see that God begin to add people to the Church. From these passage here we come to see that we can no longer pray for his Kingdom to come, because his Kingdom has already come to the world. That does not mean that should not be praying for the Churches within the local communities. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Eph 3:10-12.
Ephesians 3:10–12 NKJV
10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.
From this passage, As Christians we need to be praying for the local congregations for encouragement, for blessing, and for wisdom of God. Each congregation is a light that needs to maintain its salts. Sometimes Church fail to understand that without pray for their fellow families how are they to understand the will of God, his wisdom, and his grand plan for eternity.

Prayer is a Model of Concern:

This leads us to our last point for today, Which is Pray is a model of Concern. Not only are we to pray for Churches, but we are to pray for all the inhabit of the Earth. Lets go back to our Main passage in Mt 6:10
Matthew 6:10 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
if we look at the last part of verse 10 here we see the Key words ON EARTH! We should be praying for all to repent come to understand the will of God. In order for this to be accomplish, we must look back at how God wanted to accomplish this back in Mt 28:18-20
Matthew 28:18–20 NKJV
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
From this passage see that Jesus visit his disciples one last time before leaving the kingdom (the Churches) within their guidance. Christ tells them all authority has been given to him in heaven, and here on Earth. He also tells them to go and make disciples within all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. Even today we should be praying for the world to come back to God, and Christ. we have to remember human nature is something difficult to overcome, because it is easy to continue in life of sin than it is live a life obedient God, and Jesus Christ.

Conclusion:

Today, I hope we come to understand that Pray is very important for as Christians. It allow us to express our needs to our Father who is in Heaven, and I hope we recognize that is because of Christ who intercedes on our behalf. I may not know what you all struggle with in this life, but I do know a being who does, and wants a relationship with you. All you have to do is decide if you want to believe in him, than allow that belief to lead you to obeying God’s will. If you have questions, if you are in need of assistance of any kind, if you wish to stay a study or, if you wish to become a child of God through Baptism please come forward as we stand and sing.
