Word Fitly Spoken
FROM: TODAY’S TURNING POINT – Dr. David Jeremiah
PRO 25:11: A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
We need to realize the destructive power of the tongue; but we also need to grasp its power for good.
Do you speak tenderly with your loved ones?
Do you express affection?
Do you compliment and edify?
Are your words fitly spoken?
The word fitly is an interesting term in the Hebrew . . . It’s the only time this word occurs in the entire OT, & experts suggest 2 different meanings:
1/ involves the idea of timing – a word spoken at the right time, or a word well-timed.
2/ related to the idea of a wheel, such as a potter’s wheel . . . a well-turned word
Father, help me say the right words at the right time every time.
Grant the wisdom You have promised so that my words are “fitly spoken” today.
One reason a dog is such a good friend is that his tail wags instead of his tongue. --Anonymous
