Saturday of the Fifth Week of Easter Yrs 1 and 2 2025
Humans mark success by growth, but God marks success by conformity to Jesus and conformity to divine direction. Paul’s mission was marked by divine initiative and when it was needed to follow the divine strategy he compromised the issue of no need for circumcision that he had fought for in the Jerusalem Council. He had a strategy to work through Asia Minor, but when the Holy Spirit blocked it, he followed God’s alteration to include Greece in the strategy. In the Gospel Jesus lets us know that success is conformity to him. In this passage he warns that that will lead to human rejection because they will be like their master. The world does not know Jesus or “the one who sent me.” So we must conform our lives to Jesus and our plans to God’s plans.
