Sixth Sunday of Easter Yr C 2025
The people of God in the Old Testament are those descendants of Abraham who lived the covenant at Sinai, who kept God’s word. In the New Testament we find that same people built on not just the Patriarchs but also also the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb. Paul has to work out how the Gentiles could be included and the solution was to follow the Torah as interpreted by Jesus, so again, “Whoever loves me will keep my word.” All are reborn by baptism that gives the Gentiles the circumcision of Christ, but the Word of the Father through the Son is still binding. To live this in a hostile word requires help, so the Advocate, the Holy Spirit will bring the presence of Christ that will bring peace, living in hope of the manifest presence of Christ, and in union with the Father. This is a sweeping vision that shows us the way of peace and unity that Pope Leo XIV has called for, but we cannot attain to it except by living under the guidance of the Spirit according to the word of Christ so we are in the love of the Father.
