Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
Study in scripture is the diligent and intentional examination of Scripture, with the purpose of gaining understanding, wisdom, and spiritual growth. It's a practice encouraged throughout the Bible as a means to know God more deeply and live according to His will.
Keys to studying the Bible
Keys to studying the Bible
I must know the author.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. John 1:1-2
2. I must understand the Bible is the complete Word of God.
For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalms 119:89
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: Isaiah 28:10
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isaiah 40:8
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. 1 Peter 1:24-25
3. The Bible does not contradict itself
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20
For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2
So if God cannot lie, then that means his word cannot lie.
Example of what people say is contradictory in the Bible
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. Romans 14:11
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; Philippians 2:10
4. I must have an open mind.
