Humble definition - offering a spirit of diversion, putting others before yourself.

Jesus was humble, and who are we supposed to be like?

1. Be Like Jesus

Philippians 2:5 CSB

5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,

We are supposed to be like Jesus in everything that we do.

Think back to the message this morning about the good Samaritan.

If it was Jesus who was walking down the road and came upon someone who was hurting and needing help, do you think Jesus would move to the other side of the road and pretend like he didn’t see that person?

No, He would provide help. He would give them the time that was needed and the help that he could to make sure that they were taken care of.

That is exactly what He did with us.

We were separated from God, and Jesus gave his life for us on the cross so that we were taken care of.

Jesus was humble.

2. Jesus Was Humble

We are supposed to be like Jesus when it comes to being humble.

Let’s take a look together at an example of Jesus being humble.

Philippians 2:6–8 CSB

6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.

Jesus has been there with God forever.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.

Even though Jesus was equal to God, he didn’t consider himself equal.

Jesus knew that He was to come to earth to serve that Father. (To serve God)

Jesus became a servant. I made himself lower than God, so that he was able to serve God and us.

What are some of the things that Jesus did while He was on earth?

Healed the sick

Miracles

Taught the Word of God.

Washed feet.

He provided the example for us.

Loved us.

took our punishment.

Jesus took on the role of one who serves.

Jesus humbled himself to the role of a servant.

He made himself lower than everyone else.

How does Jesus want us to live? (Humility)

Jesus wants us to be HUMBLE!

Conclusion:

What would it look like if we humbled ourselves the same way that Jesus did?

What are some ways that we can be humble?

Focus on other people above ourself.

Care for other people.

Love other people the same way we love Jesus - unconditionally.

Be like Jesus - put on humility.
