The Evidence of the Helper
Theme: The real proof that the Holy Spirit is active in your life isn’t just about feelings or emotional highs—it’s about supernatural evidence through spiritual fruit, powerful gifts, and genuine transformation that brings glory to Jesus.
INTRODUCTION – HOW CAN YOU KNOW IF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS REALLY ACTIVE? Lots of believers have emotional or inspiring experiences, but the key question isn’t, “Did you feel something?” The true question is, “Is there clear evidence that the Holy Spirit is transforming your life?”
Key Question: What does the Bible say is the evidence of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life?

I. FIRST EVIDENCE – SUPERNATURAL UTTERANCE (Speaking in Tongues & Praise)

Acts 10:44–46 describes it clearly:
Acts 10:44–46 “While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God.
When Peter was still preaching, the Holy Spirit came upon the listeners.
They knew the Spirit was there because the people began speaking in tongues and praising God.

A. Tongues Showed Clearly the Spirit Had Come

Just like the Jews in Acts 2, the Gentiles received the Holy Spirit, and speaking in tongues was the visible sign.

B. Tongues and Praise Go Together

Speaking in tongues isn’t about emotions—it’s about magnifying God.

C. This Sign is Still Active Today

1 Corinthians 14:2 explains tongues as a divine language directly to God.
1 Corinthians 14:2 “For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.”
Remember, speaking in tongues shows you've received the Spirit, but maturity comes from letting the Spirit lead you daily.

II. SECOND EVIDENCE – SUPERNATURAL GIFTS

1 Corinthians 12:7–11 teaches that each believer receives spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit to benefit everyone:
1 Corinthians 12:7–11 “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”

A. These Gifts Are Clearly Supernatural

They're not just talents or skills we learn—they are powerful manifestations of God’s Spirit.

B. The 9 Spiritual Gifts:

Word of wisdom
Word of knowledge
Faith
Healing
Miracles
Prophecy
Discerning of spirits
Tongues
Interpretation of tongues

C. Every Believer Can Experience These Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:11 “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”
According to 1 Corinthians 12:11, every believer has access because the Holy Spirit empowers each one uniquely.

III. THIRD EVIDENCE – SPIRITUAL FRUIT

Galatians 5:22–23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23 lists the fruit clearly:
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

A. Gifts Demonstrate God’s Power; Fruit Demonstrates Character

Being Spirit-filled isn't just about power—it’s about living a holy life.
Gifts show what God can do through you, but fruit reveals what He’s doing inside of you.

B. Spiritual Fruit Reflects Jesus' Nature

2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 says the Spirit transforms us into Christ’s image.
The Holy Spirit doesn't just empower you; He shapes you to become more like Jesus.

C. Fruit Can't Be Faked

Matthew 7:16 reminds us we recognize true believers by their spiritual fruit.
Matthew 7:16 “You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”
If you operate in spiritual gifts without spiritual fruit, you're using God's power without His heart.

IV. BALANCING GIFTS AND FRUIT

Truly Spirit-filled people aren't necessarily the loudest—they're the ones most surrendered to God.
1 Corinthians 13:1–2 emphasizes love as essential.
1 Corinthians 13:1–2 “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
Without love, even powerful spiritual gifts become meaningless.
Gifts without fruit are just noise, and fruit without gifts limits your impact.
The Spirit equips us both to demonstrate His power and to transform our hearts.

CONCLUSION – IS THERE EVIDENCE IN YOUR LIFE?

Reflect on this:
Is the Spirit changing my words, thoughts, and actions?
Are spiritual gifts active in my life to benefit others?
Does my life clearly reflect the character and power of Jesus?
The world doesn't need a church that only talks about the Holy Spirit. It needs a church that actively walks in the power and fruit of the Spirit.
