12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
We are told to be like Jesus, and we are told to be gentle.
Paul Was Gentle
Paul Was Gentle
7 Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nurse nurtures her own children.
The Apostle Paul traveled all over sharing the gospel of Jesus.
He went all over and started churches and helped people when they had questions about God.
But Paul was not always gentle when it came to how he treated Christians.
Paul was not actually always Paul.
Before he became known as Paul, His name was Saul.
He grew up religious, under the law, not under grace.
He was one of the people that thought the Christians had the understanding of God all wrong.
He actually persecuted Christians. (He put them in Jail)
But on the road to Damascus, Saul meet Jesus and accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
There is nothing that you could have done that is too bad for Jesus to forgive.
Saul was a BAD man, but God loves Saul just like He loves you!
God allowed Saul to have salvation and gave him the new name of Paul.
As Paul, he traveled all over to share Jesus, he ended up sharing Jesus with the people that he was so mean to before.
Something happened when Paul accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, he became GENTLE.
7 Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nurse nurtures her own children.
Paul and the other followers of Jesus were gentle.
They could have gone up to them and demand things like money, shelter, food, and they could have gone up and been rude and mean to them about their sins.
However, Paul and the other Christians did not do that.
They were GENTLE!
Being gentle means that you show love and compassion towards others weaknesses.
Who here is perfect?
Who has never made a single mistake in their own life? (I know I have)
Paul felt the gentleness of God.
So, Paul showed the gentleness of God to everyone else.
Paul was compassionate to everyone else’s weakness and shortcomings.
He was not a burden. They didn’t make life difficult or harder on anyone, they were just gentle.
Who has ever seen the way a mother is with a baby?
They are gentle. You have to be with a newborn baby.
You cannot be rough, you have to be gentle.
We need to be gentle even when people do things that we do not like or that we know is wrong.
We have all messed up, we just determined that none of us were perfect!
As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we need to be gentle and loving and kind to everyone else no matter what they do.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
What is something that God did for us that showed gentleness?
He sent Jesus who died on the cross for us!
He took the punishment for sin so we did not have to.
Now we get to share God’s gentleness with other people.
Who is supposed to be like Jesus? (ME)
Who is supposed to show gentleness? (ME)
We get to give gentleness because God first gave it to us!
What does Col 3:12 say again?
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
