Out Of The Question- Not For God! Luke 1:26-38
26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was.
30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
May God bless the reading, hearing, and understanding of His precious Word. Let’s have a word of prayer.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are still the God who does the impossible. Speak to our hearts today. Breathe faith into dry places, and stir courage where there’s been fear. Show us that no circumstance is beyond Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
4. Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith! In Jesus' Name!
5. Sermon Introduction
With wars in other countries, rising costs of just living day to day , and worries about health care and on top of that Artificial Intellegence (AI)changing the job market, our world is facing some major "out of the question" situations.
"Out of the Question" usually means that something is not possible or accepted at all. In everyday language, it means that the answer doesn't seem likely enough to be worth talking about. "Out of the Question" is not a problem in God's kingdom; it's a chance for His power to be shown.
Many of us feel like there are no answers because of problems in our daily lives, like broken relationships, losing our jobs, getting sicker, and being spiritually worn out.
"Out of the Question" is not a problem in God's kingdom; it's a chance for His power to be shown.
In other words, what we label as "out of the question," God labels as "the perfect opportunity." He works in realms where logic fails, and faith is required. When medicine has no cure, money has run out, and the odds are against us, that’s when God says, “Now let Me show you what I can do.”
Luke 1:26-28 tells us that things that seem impossible to us are often just what God needs to show off His greatness.
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee,
27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David.
28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”
God sent Gabriel to Nazareth, this is a town known for corruption and this is a town with a low reputation.
Even after Jesus was born and ministering topeople - folks still thought that were he came from was basically full of low reputation
43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.”
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
So God chose a this young, pure-hearted girl there to bring the Savior into the world. This reminds me and you : your location does not limit how high you can go in Christ Jesus Don’t let your location limit your elevation in God.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
The Message For Mary
28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”
29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.
30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God!
31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.
32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David.
33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”
Two things i want to share with you here
Lean In
A. You Are Highly Favored God knew Mary’s heart. Gabriel called her “highly favored.” This wasn’t about wealth, status, or comfort—it was about being chosen for a divine purpose. In 2025, many of us measure favor by external validation: we want likes, we want shares, we want job titles, or we want income. But divine favor often looks like a responsibility, divine favor often looks like service, and divine favor often looks like stretching beyond comfort zones. Mary was favored not just to be blessed, but to carry a burden that would ultimately bless the world.
God's favor doesn’t mean ease—it means empowerment. It’s a sign that God trusts you with His purpose. Mary’s favor was a mark of trust and honor, Mary’s favor was rooted in her purity, Mary’s favor was rooted in her humility, and Mary’s favor was rooted in her willingness to obey God at any cost. The same can be said of us when we walk faithfully, even in unseen places.
B. You Don’t Have to Understand to Obey Mary was deeply troubled and confused by Gabriel’s words. But she didn’t allow her confusion to cancel her calling. She trusted God even when the full picture wasn’t clear. This is a powerful message for us today.
Today, with information at our fingertips, we often want complete clarity before taking a step. But faith says, "I'll move even when I don't fully understand." Obedience doesn’t require full understanding—it requires full surrender.
Mary’s response, “Be it unto me according to your word,” reveals a heart willing to submit even when things don’t make sense. That kind of faith gives God room to perform miracles.
The bible tells us in the book of Hebrews Abraham obeyed
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
But You don’t understand Pastor, how is God going to fix this thing, this mess, this situation, this marriage, this affliction, this problem.
So check this out:
34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”
35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.
When Mary heard the angel’s announcement, her question was sincere: “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” She wasn’t doubting God’s power—she was trying to understand the process. Gabriel’s answer was not natural it was supernatural: He said to her
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.”
This reveals one of the greatest theological truths in all of Scripture—the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus was not born of natural union, but of divine intervention.
Say That divine intervention
The Holy Spirit became the divine agent of conception, making possible what biology deemed impossible. This is a basic belief. This is foundational as a Christian! This explains how Jesus could be both fully God and fully man, sinless in nature and yet able to identify with humanity.
It required a divine intervention!
The same Spirit that made the miraculous conception of Jesus Christ possible is still working today. You may be looking at your life asking, “How can this be?”—How can I forgive? How can I survive this loss? How can I move forward? The answer is still: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you.”
When God wants to birth something extraordinary through you, He doesn’t need natural circumstances—He needs your surrender. You are not too old or too young for God to use you in the building of the Kingdom! You are not too old or too young for God to use you to serve someone else! You are not too old or too young to receive healing! You are not too old or to young to start again! Let the Holy Spirit come upon you!
6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.
You still may not see how God is going to work it out! So you may have to look at someone else life that God divinely intervened in

36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month.
37 For the word of God will never fail.”
38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
Gabriel encouraged Mary by pointing her to another miracle: her cousin Elisabeth, who had been barren for years and was now six months pregnant. This was more than news—it was confirmation. It was heaven’s way of saying, “You’re not alone.”
Elisabeth’s miracle was a sign that God was already moving, already answering prayers, already doing the impossible. It reminded Mary that someone else in her family was living proof that God could override nature, age, and expectation.
In a world that often tries to isolate us in our faith struggles, Elisabeth’s story teaches us that God is working all around us. Your miracle may be in motion—even if it hasn’t reached your doorstep yet. Somebody else is carrying a testimony too.
Who is the "Elisabeth" in your life? Who can you look to and say, “If God did it for them, He can do it for me”?
37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
When Mary Understood she said “Be it unto me according to Your word.”
This is where peace begins. Not when the problem disappears, but when you surrender to God’s plan.
I am going to end with this :When the power grid goes down during a storm, the backup generator kicks in. That’s what the Holy Spirit is. When life fails, when everything shuts off—He still lights the way. You and I are not powerless.
Here’s what I believe - a real messenger of God still bring hope. Favor doesn't mean easy, it means chosen. Remember The Holy Spirit is still God's power source. Don’t forget Nothing is too hard for God.
Always Say yes to God , even if it doesn’t make sense yet.
God Bless You and God Keep you is my prayer!
