Mind Of Christ - Philippians 2:5-11

Philippians 2:5–11 NKJV
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
May God bless the reading, hearing, and understanding of His precious Word.
3. Prayer
Let’s have a word of prayer.

4. Confession of Faith

I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith! In Jesus Name!
1.Introduction
Have you ever looked around and felt like the world has lost its mind? From political chaos to social media outrage, from family dysfunction to personal anxiety—people are overwhelmed, overstimulated, and often under-anchored. But the Word of God gives us a prescription for peace, clarity, and purpose: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”
The Apostle Paul isn’t just giving us spiritual poetry—he’s providing a transformational command. In 2025, if we’re going to survive mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, we need the mind of Christ.
In a time of social unrest, mental health crises, church hurt, racial tension, and a search for identity, we don’t need more opinions—we need transformation. Paul is not just urging us to admire Christ’s humility; he’s calling us to imitate His mindset.
Whether you're 25 and feeling pressure to find your place in this world... Or 45 trying to manage a career, family, and faith... Or 65+ and wondering if your time to be impactful has passed... The mind of Christ is relevant to YOU.
“Think Like a Servant, Not a Celebrity”
Philippians 2:6–7 NKJV
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

“Being in the form of God”

The Greek word “morphē” means the essential nature or essence of something.
Paul is saying Jesus existed eternally as God, not just resembling God, but fully divine.
Jesus wasn’t created like us—He always was (John 1:1–3).
John 1:1–3 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
🔍 Takeaway: Christ didn’t lose His divinity when He came to earth; He voluntarily added humanity.

“Thought it not robbery to be equal with God”

The NIV Translation says: “did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage.” (NIV)
Jesus did not cling to His rights or demand honor even though He deserved it.
In a “me-first” culture (2025), this hits hard. Jesus could’ve demanded worship but chose self-emptying love instead.
Check this out: Imagine a CEO choosing to mop floors anonymously—not because he has to, but to teach the team servant leadership.

“Made Himself of no reputation” (Greek: kenóō)

This phrase means “He emptied Himself.” He didn’t cease being God, but laid aside His divine privileges—omnipresence, glory, divine recognition. He chose obscurity so we could know salvation.
🧴 Think of pouring out a full bottle—Jesus poured out His glory to become fully human.

“Took upon Him the form of a servant”

This is not symbolic. Jesus literally lived to serve others
Luke 22:27.
Luke 22:27 MSG
27 “Who would you rather be: the one who eats the dinner or the one who serves the dinner? You’d rather eat and be served, right? But I’ve taken my place among you as the one who serves.
Jesus washed feet, healed the sick, hung with the outcasts, and never once demanded a throne.

“Made in the likeness of men”

He took on full humanity—physically, emotionally, spiritually—but without sin (Hebrews 4:15).
Hebrews 4:15 NKJV
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
The King of Kings came in diapers, experienced hunger, grief, betrayal, and physical pain—all for our sake.
Jesus emptied himself, not of his divine nature, for that was impossible; but of the glories and joys of heaven. He was rich and became poor.”
“Jesus did not pretend to be a servant. He was not an actor playing a role. He was—and is—a servant.”
"This is the great contradiction: God lowering Himself to man's level, even to the level of a servant, to raise man to Himself."
Lean In
Stop chasing titles; start chasing testimonies of service.
Don’t let your degrees or digital following distract you from humility
You may be leading at work, but are you serving at home?
Jesus shows us true power is not in status but in sacrifice.
Your wisdom is a form of servanthood.
Retirement from career doesn’t mean retirement from kingdom impact.

🙏🏾 SPIRITUAL INSIGHT

To change your performance, change your posture. Jesus changed the world not by demanding recognition—but by laying aside His rights. In a world full of entitlement, the mind of Christ whispers, “Serve anyway.”

“Humble Obedience Leads to High Promotion”

Philippians 2:8 NKJV
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

🔹 “Being found in fashion as a man”

This refers to outward form or appearance.
Jesus didn’t just look like a man—He lived fully as a man. He experienced hunger, thirst, fatigue, temptation, grief, and rejection.
While fully God in nature, He chose to fully participate in human suffering, without privilege or exemption.
Lean In:
Jesus didn’t skip the human experience—He stepped into it. This is important for those who feel unseen, those who feel unimportant, or those who feel overwhelmed.

🔹 “He humbled Himself”

This was a voluntary action, not forced.
Jesus didn’t wait to be humbled—He chose humility.
In the Roman world and just like today , humility wasand is seen as weakness. Great men elevated themselves. Jesus reversed that.
Jesus went from the throne of heaven to the dirt of earth—not for applause, but for atonement.
There is a tv show called Undercover Boss. This is where we see the Presidents and Ceo doing the jobs of the workers not for PR, but because they wants to love and understand the people on the ground level and what they have to go through

🔹 “Became obedient”

Greek word means to listen attentively and follow through completely. Obedience here is not partial or conditional—Jesus was 100% committed to the Father’s will.
His obedience was daily, not just on the cross:
Jesus was Obedient in temptation (Matthew 4)

1. The Temptation of Jesus (Verses 1–11)

Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil after fasting for 40 days.
Temptation 1: Physical Needs – “Turn these stones into bread.” 🔹 Satan tempts Jesus to prioritize physical comfort over spiritual calling. 🔹 Jesus responds in obedience : “Man shall not live by bread alone…” (Deut. 8:3)
Temptation 2: Personal Pride – “Throw yourself down from the temple; God will protect you.” 🔹 A temptation to test God and seek public validation. 🔹 Jesus responds in obedience : “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” (Deut. 6:16)
Temptation 3: Power and Possessions – “Bow down and I’ll give you all the kingdoms of the world.” 🔹 Satan offers a shortcut to glory—without the cross. 🔹 Jesus responds in obedience : “Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.” (Deut. 6:13)
🔎 Key Lesson: Jesus shows us that victory over temptation comes through the Word of God, spiritual discipline, and obedience.
Obedient in serving others (Mark 10:45)
Mark 10:45 NKJV
45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Obedient in prayer and isolation (Luke 22:42)
Luke 22:42 NKJV
42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

🙌🏾 Takeaway: Obedience is more than an event—it’s a lifestyle.

🔹 “Unto death, even the death of the cross”

Crucifixion was not only painful, it was shameful. Reserved for criminals and slaves, it was Rome’s worst form of execution.
“Even the death of the cross” emphasizes the depth of Christ’s humiliation and love.
He didn’t just die—He died the worst way, so we could have the best life.
🔥 Today , this is still the clearest picture of love the world has ever seen. Romans 5:8 – “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

📚 COMMENTARY INSIGHTS

🔸 Matthew Henry’s Commentary

"Jesus not only humbled Himself, but He also obeyed God's law, even to the point of death." The cross had to happen because of our sin, and His love made it possible.
“It was not the nails that held Jesus to the cross; it was His love for sinners.”
"In the eyes of the world, Jesus' death was not heroic; it was embarrassing." Still, it was through that shame that God's saving greatness was shown.
The world may celebrate rebellion and self-glory, but God honors humility and obedience.
Obedience will often be unpopular—but it will always be powerful.
Christ-like obedience means following God even when it hurts or doesn’t make sense.
Retirement doesn’t mean retirement from obedience.
Humility isn’t weakness—it’s the gateway to elevation
James 4:10
James 4:10 NKJV
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

🙏🏾 Think About this

He humbled Himself…” We often ask God to lift us up, but are we willing to bow down first?

Jesus stooped lower than anyone ever has, and God lifted Him higher than anyone ever will. There is no resurrection without crucifixion, and no promotion without surrender.

“Live to Glorify, Not Just to Get By”

Philippians 2:9–11 NKJV
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is 🔹 “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him…” (v. 9)
“Wherefore” links back to verses 6–8. Because Jesus humbled Himself, God exalted Him.
“Highly exalted” means to elevate above all others, super-exalted—a divine promotion that no man or angel could ever earn.
Philippians 2:9–11 NKJV
✨ In God’s economy, humility precedes honor Honor Jesus Christ to the glory of God the Father.
Proverbs 18:12 NIV
12 Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor
James 4:10 NKJV
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Jesus Christ was exalted not for personal gain, but for the glory of God the Father. In a time when people are “living their truth,” Jesus lived God’s truth.
The Life Application Bible notes that Christ’s exaltation is proof that God rewards humility with honor.
The New American Commentary says that one day, every mouth will say that Jesus is Lord, whether by faith or by force. .
Practical Application
Don’t live for retirement—live for eternal reward.
Don’t live to be seen—live to make Him known.
Your legacy will not be in what you owned, but in who you helped know Jesus Christ.
God has given us the model in Jesus Christ ! My challenge to us is that we find the quiet power of humility, that we execute the discipline of obedience, and release the true joy of praising God in a world that wants us to be loud, proud, and self-serving.
Let this mind, the mind that was in Christ Jesus, live in you and me . Let;s ask God to Reset our hearts, our minds, and our lives so that they are once again focused on his will. May God Bless You and Keep is my prayer!
