Mark 9:1–13 ESV
1 And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” 2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” 8 And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. 9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. 11 And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” 12 And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”

What has happend so far? (Mark 8)

Peters confession (Mark 8:29)
Mark 8:29 ESV
29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”
The two stage healing of the Blind man (Mark 8:22-25)
What is this living parable reflecting in our story?
Mark is drawing a paralle between the blindness of the man and the spritutal blindless of the dicisples
Because remeber:
Mark 1:1 ESV
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
There is two parts to the Gosple to the Good news,
Jesus is the messiah
Jesus is the son of God
Both are important but the second one is the most important and defines what kind of messiah Jesus is
But why?
The jewish view of what the messiah was that he would be an was earthly king who would free them from roman oppression, he would unify Israel and defeat all there enemies
So the disciples are sitting in this moment and they know that jesus is the messiah, but they dont understand what that means they still dont see who jesus is
they are still blind and they need jesus to lay his hands on there spritural eyes to be able to understand and weather the coming trials.
Jesus is trying to prepare them for the suffering of the cross and setting them up so that afterwards they look back and understand what the cross ment.
This helps set the stage for verse one
Mark 9:1–4 ESV
1 And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” 2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Now that word Transfigure is a greek word

We get the word metomophisi —-> Catapiler to butter fly
Jesus glory is being put on display for us
see whats happing here is that the deity of jesus is being put on display
See The term kingdom of God referse through out mark the precens of God, the power of God on earth, Thats Jesus! Jesus is the Kindom of God, becasue he is the king, Where ever he Goes the kingdom of God Goes
See the kingdom of God came when jesus was born, but his glory and power had been for the most part veiled and hidden, but for the first time in this momnet the unveiled power and glory of Jesus is unveiled and the unhindered majisty of Jesus is put on dislay as jesus’s deity is put on display.
Daniel 7:9 ESV
9 “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.
All this is great but why, why does jesus go through the trouble to show them his glory?
jesus is changing there focus, because if they had gone to the cross still seeing jesus only as a earthly messiah, they wont have survived the sufferings of the cross, they needed stronger stuff a better messiah, they needed a better king, they needed God incarnate.
There view of jesus needed to be elevated, so that they would take there hands off the rails, that they would let go of there plans for who jesus should be and final put there faith in him as savior, not
