The Church Has Become Comfort-Oriented in Many Places
The Church Has Become Comfort-Oriented in Many Places
Critique: In much of the Western world, the Church often mirrors the culture rather than challenging it. Sermons can focus more on self-help than sin, repentance, and discipleship.
Example: Entertainment has replaced reverence in some worship services, and the cross is sometimes replaced with a message of convenience.
🪙 2. Prosperity Gospel Has Distorted the True Gospel
🪙 2. Prosperity Gospel Has Distorted the True Gospel
Critique: In places like Africa, South America, and Asia, many churches teach that faith guarantees health, wealth, and success—minimizing suffering, humility, and service.
Biblical Warning: “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine...” (2 Timothy 4:3)
🕊️ 3. The Holy Spirit Is Misrepresented
🕊️ 3. The Holy Spirit Is Misrepresented
Critique: Some Pentecostal or Charismatic movements focus more on manifestations than on fruit (Galatians 5:22–23). This leads to emotionalism without sanctification.
Balance Needed: We must not quench the Spirit, but neither should we counterfeit Him.
4. Discipleship Is Weak
4. Discipleship Is Weak
Critique: Many Christians remain spiritually immature for years because churches focus more on attracting crowds than making disciples.
Result: Shallow faith that falls apart during suffering, temptation, or persecution.
5. Division and Denominational Pride
5. Division and Denominational Pride
Critique: There are thousands of Christian denominations, and many refuse to work together because of pride or minor doctrinal differences.
Jesus' Heart: “That they all may be one...” (John 17:21)
6. Compromise on Biblical Morality
6. Compromise on Biblical Morality
Critique: Many churches are now approving things Scripture clearly calls sin (e.g., sexual immorality, same-sex marriage, gender ideology) in the name of love.
Truth: Biblical love never compromises with sin—it calls sinners to repentance and grace.
7. Lack of Urgency for the Great Commission
7. Lack of Urgency for the Great Commission
Critique: Many believers are passive about evangelism. The urgency of preaching the Gospel and reaching the unreached has been replaced with comfort and complacency.
Challenge: Millions have yet to hear the name of Jesus even once.
Sermon Title: “Back to the Cross”
Sermon Title: “Back to the Cross”
Main Text: 1 Peter 4:17 (NIV)
“For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?”
Introduction
Introduction
The Church today has reached a critical point.
While we have buildings, resources, and influence, we often lack the fire of holiness,
the depth of discipleship, and the urgency of mission.
God is not looking for a popular church—He's looking for a pure and powerful one.
It’s time to come back to the cross.
1. Comfort Has Replaced the Cross
1. Comfort Has Replaced the Cross
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” — Luke 9:23
Today’s message often says, “Come to Jesus and everything will be easy,” but Jesus never promised comfort—He promised a cross.
The early Church grew in persecution, not prosperity. They were willing to lose everything to gain Christ.
Many modern believers prefer bina kosto ko assis, but real discipleship is costly.
Following Jesus means dying to selfish desires, worldly pleasures, and pride daily.
📌 Challenge: Are you carrying your cross, or are you just enjoying the benefits?
💸 2. Prosperity Has Replaced Preaching on Sin
💸 2. Prosperity Has Replaced Preaching on Sin
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” — Matthew 4:17
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 6:23
The modern church often preaches a gospel that’s more about self-improvement than salvation.
The truth is: people don’t need more motivation—they need forgiveness, repentance, and transformation.
Prosperity preachers say, “Sow a seed and you’ll get a car,” but Jesus says, “Deny yourself and follow Me.”
The true Gospel Yeshu Christ duwra Paap lai Ghrina garnu sikaucha, Pachatap garunu lagucha, and prabhu ma swataranta banaucha.
📌 Challenge: Is your faith built on Christ crucified—or on comfort, cash, and convenience?
🔥 3. The Holy Spirit Has Been Misused or Ignored
🔥 3. The Holy Spirit Has Been Misused or Ignored
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” — John 16:13
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you...” — Acts 1:8
In some churches, the Holy Spirit is reduced to just emotional experiences—falling, shouting, laughing—without transformation.
In other places, the Holy Spirit is ignored altogether, replaced by cold rituals and intellectualism.
But the Spirit is not for performance, He is for power—to help us witness, pray, resist sin, and grow in holiness.
When the Holy Spirit fills a person, He doesn’t just make them excited—He makes them obedient and bold for Christ.
📌 Challenge: Are you filled with the Holy Spirit for holiness and mission, or just hype?
⛪ 4. We Must Return to Discipleship
⛪ 4. We Must Return to Discipleship
“Go and make disciples of all nations...” — Matthew 28:19
“Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Many churches celebrate , but Jesus called us to make disciples.
Discipleship is slow, intentional, and personal—it requires time, sacrifice, and accountability.
Jesus spent three years with twelve men, not thousands. He built depth, not just crowds.
Without discipleship, Christians remain spiritually immature—vulnerable to temptation and false teaching.
📌 Challenge: Are you a true disciple of Jesus—or just an attendee, a fan, or a follower from a distance?
❤️ 5. The Church Must Be Holy Again
❤️ 5. The Church Must Be Holy Again
“Without holiness no one will see the Lord.” — Hebrews 12:14
“Be holy, because I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16
Holiness is not legalism—it’s Christ-likeness. It’s living differently from the world, not blending in with it.
Many churches have compromised on sin in the name of “tolerance” or “love.”
But true love speaks truth. And true holiness is not just about avoiding sin—it’s about reflecting the character of God.
The early Church didn’t win the world by looking like it, but by being set apart, pure, and filled with power.
📌 Challenge: Does your life reflect the holiness of Jesus, or the habits of the world?
Conclusion: Back to the Cross
Conclusion: Back to the Cross
The solution is not to become more relevant to the world—but more obedient to Christ.
Let us return to:
The Cross – the place of death to self and new life in Christ.
The Word – the standard of truth, not opinions or culture.
The Spirit – not just for gifts, but for godliness.
The Mission – to make disciples, not just fill buildings.
Call to Action:
Call to Action:
God is calling us to be a pure, passionate, and powerful Church again. But it begins with repentance—with us.
Prayer of Repentance & Recommitment
Prayer of Repentance & Recommitment
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with humble hearts. Forgive us, Lord, for where we have gone astray. For replacing the cross with comfort, Your truth with trends, and Your Spirit with our own strength.
Cleanse us, Lord. Purify Your Church. Awaken us to holiness, to prayer, to the fire of discipleship. Fill us again with Your Spirit—not for show, but for sanctification and service.
Make us bold witnesses. Restore the fear of God in our pulpits, purity in our worship, and passion in our mission.
Lord, take us back to the cross. Let us live crucified lives.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
