Memorial Day Celebration
Thank you Commander Duckwall, along with these other dignitaries of the armed forces, city, and those left behind from the tragedies of war.
As Patrick Ford wrote in the newspaper— “we come to reflect on the true meaning of this holiday— a day of remembrance, gratitude and national unity.”
We have assembled here today from different directions from across our county and state.
We have made this journey with friends, for some, yet for others, maybe it’s been a lonely walk with the outcomes life has thrown your way.
Nevertheless no matter our past or which way the wind is blowing—we have a hope!
Just a few days ago, approximately 50 or more people converged on this cemetery to put American flags at the entrances and on the graves of those brave military personal whose lives were given in battle for the American Way —the Free and the Brave. Today we say Thank you!
A phrase that I was introduced to recently goes like this…
“They gave their tomorrow for our today.”
John Maxwell Edmonds, was a British poet who is credited with the authorship of this famous epitaph found in the War Cemetery in Kohima, India which commemorates the fallen of the Battle of Kohima in April 1944 where alias defeated the Japanese.
The complete Epitaph is…
“When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
?Maybe you have family member or dear friend who helped give you your tomorrow?
?Maybe you have memories tucked away of that loved one that needs to be shared to a generation that has lost its way or maybe has never understood how precious tomorrow is— no!
How precious today is?
Their today given for our tomorrow!
How can we say thank you today to those who gave their ALL?
T.O.D.A.Y.
Thankful
Not just for the day, but thankful all along the way
You and I are unique.
No one else can be us. The encouragement we have to offer is so needed in our world TODAY
Don’t let negativity dry our sense of humor or our Witty response to life Today!
Observant of Others
The famous hashtag is #BetterTogether
Camaraderie makes the world go round with more...
More joy, more laughter, more empathy, more friends, more love.
WE NEED MORE FOR TODAY!
Driven
Means to be strongly compelled to achieve a goal.
To live in freedom is a founding goal of our constitution.
we have found that freedom only comes with a high price- Blood!
It has always been BLOOD!
In 1 Corinthians 6:20 it says “God bought you with a high price…”
In Hebrews 10:4 That it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin.
But the blood of Jesus ushered in a new era of forgiveness.
History tells us that We won’t be broken from an enemy from the outside, but we could be crushed when we become the enemy of one another.
We must Be driven to keep the goal ahead of us for all our sakes.
These we honor today we’re not weary in doing well. They paid the price of their today for our tomorrow
Action to Share
Teaching the next generation is a must.
They need our guidance, our sound judgement, our grit and integrity.
Who knows how to can vegetables- teach canning.
May we Never miss the opportunity to share our story to help lead the next generation today
Y: Why
Because of Freedom, we are a people united for one cause — America 🇺🇸
No we didn’t all originate here as we have come from all around the world but together we have built something grand!
there have been blunders along the way nevertheless we have risen to defend one another
So, How can we say thank you today to those who gave their ALL?
By being…
Being Thankful
Observant of others
Driven with purpose
Taking Action to share our story.
Y:Why…
because “they gave their today for our tomorrow.”
What will we do now!?

GENEROSITY

A testimony story of a rich man!
Luke 18:22 shares about a man who lived on the dark side of generosity.
We commonly call him the Rich Young Ruler.
He appears to desire a relationship with Jesus; however, as the story unfolds we learn where his heart really is.
At first, he is so proud of his religious life, but then Jesus exposes that it is paper-thin. No hero here.
This is only a stark reminder that the Rich Young Ruler can be a stealthy resident in the life of very religious people. He chooses to fail at generosity, even when he had all the resources to accomplish it.
Luke 18:18–23 NLT
18 Once a religious leader asked Jesus this question: “Good Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “Only God is truly good. 20 But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother.’*21 The man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” 22 When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 23 But when the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very rich.
We keep Giving
We keep letting God change our hearts from selfish to selflessness.

TODAY WE move from Mark and venture to a Jesus story found in Luke and Matthew
Luke 6:47–49 NLT
47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
Matthew 7:24–27 NLT
24 Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Foundation Depth depends on Soil Bearing Capacity (SBC) and the type of load.
Per Code (per Cl.7.2, IS:1904)
All foundations shall extend to a depth of at least 19” (50 cm) below the natural ground level.
The minimum depth of footing on sandy soil is 31.5”-39.37” (0.8 - 1 m),
The minimum depth for rocky soil is 1.97”- 19.68” (0.05 - 0.5 m) and
for clay soil, it is 35.43”-62” (0.9 - 1.6 m)
So, Upon what foundation are we building our houses (or our lives on)?
SHARING BREAD is my reference to our discussion this morning.
Sharing Bread is an online ministry supported by a family that cultivated four primary spiritual disciplines:
reading God’s Word, prayer, memorizing scripture, and mentorship
. These disciplines yielded fruit that included a vibrant lifestyle, marriage, family, and connection with God.
SO, WHAT FOUNDATION?
Upon what ground does our life rest?
The foundation determines the ability for our structures to withstand the elements – the cold hard winds of life of which no one is immune.
We live in a fallen world and we wrestle daily with Satan, sin and self, trials and heartaches blow hard on us all.
A sudden death, the loss of income, a wayward child, a chronic illness, a love-less marriage – you name it, these beat against our houses like no small hurricane.
However, Those Hopes which are built on Christ the solid Rock will stand even when the storms fiercely blow.
His comforts will never fail; His faithfulness is great and new every morning. When the Lord is our portion and sufficiency, we will always be satisfied:
Lamentations 3:22–24 NLT
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!* His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
Paul gives us fair warning as well by stating in 1 Corinthians that the wisdom of the world is foolishness in God’s sight:
1 Corinthians 3:18–20 NLT
Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.”* And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.”*
In Matthew, Christ classifies the hearers into two categories –
those who hear His Words and act and
those who hear His Words and do nothing.
Those who hear and are obedient to God’s Word receive freely flowing grace that gives way to more and more
However on the other hand, those who are disobedient to what they hear, vainly turn their backs on the grace held out for them. Sadly, they bring ruin upon themselves.
God’s Word is meant to benefit us by changing our lives as we obey.
God states in Ezekiel:
Ezekiel 33:31–32 NLT
31 So my people come pretending to be sincere and sit before you. They listen to your words, but they have no intention of doing what you say. Their mouths are full of lustful words, and their hearts seek only after money. 32 You are very entertaining to them, like someone who sings love songs with a beautiful voice or plays fine music on an instrument. They hear what you say, but they don’t act on it!
DELAYED OBEDIENCE
DELAYED OBEDIENCE is disobedience causing us harm as well. Postponed obedience can never bring the full blessing God intended for us and others as what would have brought forth had we been quick to obey.
ONLY GOD can change the outcome
Example: Like planting a tree in a drought. It needed time to grow its roots down deep to find the deep deep waters
We should not dread any consequence that results from absolute obedience to our Lord’s commands.
We are to dare to trust Him as well as dare to follow Him – He will never disappoint us – always enabling us to stand firm in the storm.
James tells us…
James 1:22–25 NLT
22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
James is telling us we are not to merely listen to God’s Word but do what it says in order to not deceive ourselves and to be blessed in all that we undertake.
Why would we want to waste our lives and efforts by doing any differently?
It is not enough to hear Christ’s words, and understand them, hear them, and remember them, hear them, and talk of them, repeat them, dispute for them; but we must hear and practice them. This do, and you shall live. Those only who hear, and obey, are blessed.” ~Matthew Henry
“Faith, as Paul saw it, was a living, flaming thing leading to surrender and obedience to the commandments of Christ.” A.W. Tozer
“Love for God and obedience to God are so completely involved in each other that either one of them implies the other too.” F. F. Bruce
TAKE AWAY TODAY:
I am to build my house upon Christ the solid Rock.
I build by obedience to His revealed will – His Word.
I must not merely listen to God’s Word but do what it says. This is always to my benefit.
Jesus is the Solid Rock
