The Sadducees is another sect of religious authorities at the time of Jesus

they only believed in the Torah which are the Books of Moses

Genesis -deut.

they don’t believe in miracles, angels, or the resurrection

after this life is over it is the end. like a dog

so these men are going to try to trip up Jesus with a terrible hypothetical question

V 27-28

this is the basis for this question

in the levitical law there is a provision for the family name to be passed down from generation to generation

it goes like this

a man marries a wife but before there is a conception the man dies

it is the duty of a brother to go into his brothers wife to conceive a child for his brother

V 29-32

so here is the question

this question is probably one that has not been properly answered

so these Saducees think that they will stump Jesus

V 33

first thing they don’t believe in the resurrection

another they don’t see the resurrection in the books of Moses

V 34

what is the purpose of marriage?

to have and raise a family, to cary on the family name

something that does not happen in eternity

we are immortal

at conception our dna is assigned to us

who we are and what our hair, eyes, and personality is there

God has also set into us

Ecclesiastes 3:11 LSB

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart,

all the religions have some sort of afterlife

some say there is reincarnation coming back as a another body

And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,

this body what Paul calls our tent

we get married and have children then our body dies

In Eternity

V 35 those considered worthy

those who have been made worthy

those who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit

who have put their faith in Jesus to save them

these are the ones who Jesus is telling us here will enter into the Kingdom of God

the people who will be in Heaven will not be married, only to Jesus our groom

V 36

because they will be like the angels and will not die

so there is no need to have children to keep the human line alive

and we will are sons of God

only the worthy ones are the sons of God

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

remember Jesus is instructing these men on the resurrection

in Mark Jesus begins this answer with a verse that is not seen in Luke

Mark 12:24 LSB

Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures nor the power of God?

Jesus is telling these men who their Job is to study and know the scriptures that they don’t know them

even though they only believe in the books of Moses

so Jesus is not going to take them to the book of Daniel to prove the resurrection

Daniel 12:2 LSB

“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to reproach and everlasting contempt.

but Jesus take them to Moses at the burning bush

and shows them the resurrection

V 37

By the time of Jesus these men’s bodies are dust

But God says they are alive

remember the rich man and Lazarus?

their bodies died and one went to paradise the other to torment

one put their trust in Jesus to save him. the other trusted in his riches.

all are still alive our soul/spirit lives for ever it is immortal

V 38

God is the God of everybody from Adam to the last person to ever be born

all are alive to Him

Some will bring glory to God’s love , mercy , and grace by believing and being justified in the resurrection they will receive their new bodies to be adapted to Heaven

others will bring glory to God’s justice and holiness they will do this by believing in their abilities and good works. they like the rich ruler will be found guilty and be resurrected and receive bodies to be adapted to the lake of fire

V 39-40

these men saw their biblical mistake

this teaches us that

Jesus did not say you have your beliefs and I mine lets just put them aside and worship together

we cant say to a buddist that we have different paths to God but thats ok

Jesus said you don’t know the scriptures

we have this ecumenical movement in the world today that is trying to draw all religions together

the NAR is chumming up with the Roman catholic church

they are all showing their true colors as they they are going along with this movement

all of this is feeding into the one world religion who will bow to the antichrist

all because they ar wrong about the scriptures

because they use the scriptures to bolster their beliefs
