Luke 7:22

The phrase “seen and heard” occurs 5 times in the Bible.
5 = death.
Genesis 5:5 “And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.”
The first natural death.
Acts 5:5 “And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.”
Saphira dies 5 verses later.
Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
“Serpent” occurs 5 times in Genesis 3 (Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”)
The “serpent” just happens to be the 5th (death) personage mentioned in scripture: #1God, #2Spirit, #3living creatures, #4mankind; and the #5SERPENT, which is Satan.
The Devil shows up 1st in the OT with a question (Genesis 3:1)
He shows up 1st in the NT with a question (Matthew 4) and in that chapter the word “devil” (5 letters) occurs the 1st time.
Back in Genesis 5 there are 13 men who died in that chapter.
Eight of them are: Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Methuselah, and Lamech. Their names are mentioned 5 times.
The other 5 died died after the chapter.
Deuteronomy 5:5 “(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,”
A verse that point to Christ and His substitutionary death on the cross.
Matthew 2:19 “But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,”
The 1st occurrence of “dead” in the NT is the 5th word in the verse.
1 Corinthians 5:5 “To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.”
5:5 “the destruction of the flesh” (death)
Job 3:5 “Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.”
1st occurrence of this phrase “shadow of death” within the 5th verse of this chapter
There are more of these later in another study!
Here are the VERSES when “seen and heard” occur:

I. The Testimony To The Discouraged.

Luke 7:22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
We must die to discouragement.

II. The Testimony To The Deity.

John 3:32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
Those that do not receive Jesus’ testimony are dead in trespasses and sins.

III. The Testimony To The Divinity.

Acts 4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
We must die to the old life.

IV. The Testimony To The Determination.

Acts 22:15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
We must die to die to what we think and do what the Lird says in His Word.

V. The Testimony To The Declaration.

1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
We do not testify of what someone else seen or heard, we now have our own testimony of salvation, surrender, and service.

Conclusion:

In the introduction there was a study on death.
How does that relate to this phrase “seen and heard”?
