Be Imitators of Me

1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV
1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
To imitate someone means to copy:
their actions,
behavior,
speech,
or style,
often with the intention of learning, mimicking, or resembling them
It can involve replicating their mannerisms, vocalizations, or even their appearance.
BUT
we are not here to learn to imitate any one else
BUT
ONLY JESUS
Imitating Christ means actively striving to live and act like Jesus.
 This involves following His example
in love, service, humility, and devotion,
as well as striving to be transformed
into His likeness through the power of the Holy Spirit.
It's about doing what He did, for the same reasons He did it,
and reflecting His character in daily life.
I like to say that we should bring back
WWJD
but i see a practical problem
Not many Christians today seek to KNOW CHRIST
I was personally aware of my short comings
in our series on the Gospel of John last year
WOW.
What Jesus did and how He did it was eye opening to me
Maybe we need to bring out to our Christian Culture
WDJD
What did Jesus Do?
I was confront with asking a version
of WHAT IS TRUTH
My church upbringing at times confused things
by giving a complex or incomplete lesson
I thought I knew
and then realized that I had much to learn
The tough part is not the KNOWING, it is the DOING
BUT I must learn so that i can do
and that is where the CHURCH comes in
Not the Church as a building or even a congregation
but as in YOU
_____________________________________________________
Starting this church
I was focused on
....to Grow others in Christ
Colossians 1:28–29 “28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.”
How is this done?
This is the question every church should be asking
then they should be in a stance that they are checking daily to ensure compliance
That is the THEME of this Lesson this morning
our WORSHIP STANCE
Paul restates his message from
1cor 4:16 “16 I urge you, then, be imitators of me.”
1 Corinthians 4:16 ESV
16 I urge you, then, be imitators of me.
Paul states the target.
....as I am of Christ
Paul stated this early in the letter
and expands on this in Chapter 11
it is PLANNED
We just did over 3 weeks of
lessons on Personal Responsibility and Freedom (thank you for completing that so well, Cory)
Maybe today
i share my burden, my focus, and my daily battle.
It starts with
I MUST BE LIKE CHRIST
not on Sunday only
but daily.
frankly it scares me to seek to comply.
on friday, 5/16 my journal states
“I am saved but I struggle in being YOU”
it hit me that struggle is real.
it has always been real
but i haven’t lived my life
in that fear of Pleasing Him
Frankly —- I some times feel unworthy of His Love
YET our call is to make disciples
Glorify God by Growing Others
Paul then says
1 Corinthians 11:2 ESV
2 Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.
The traditions === UMM, there it is
not the ones in a denomination today
but in the WORD that is eternal

Who is He?

if you had to write a biography of Jesus
How would you do?
Jesus Christ, one of the most influential figures in history:
Early Life
Jesus Christ was born between **6–4 BCE** in **Bethlehem**, Judea, during the reign of **Herod the Great**. His mother was **Mary**, and he was raised by her husband, **Joseph**, in **Nazareth**. According to Christian tradition, Jesus was conceived by the **Holy Spirit** and born of a **virgin**.
Ministry
Jesus began his public ministry around the age of **30**, after being **baptized by John the Baptist** in the **Jordan River**. He spent **40 days fasting in the wilderness**, resisting temptation before starting his teachings. His ministry lasted about **three years**, during which he preached about **love, forgiveness, and the Kingdom of God**. He performed **miracles**, including **healing the sick, feeding thousands, and walking on water**.
Teachings
Jesus’s teachings emphasized **compassion, humility, and faith**. His most famous sermon, the **Sermon on the Mount**, includes the **Beatitudes**, which highlight blessings for the poor, meek, and merciful. He often taught in **parables**, using simple stories to convey deep spiritual truths.
Crucifixion & Resurrection
Jesus was **arrested in Jerusalem**, tried by **Jewish authorities**, and handed over to the **Roman governor, Pontius Pilate**. He was **crucified** around **30 CE** and buried in a tomb. According to Christian belief, **he rose from the dead** on the **third day**, appearing to his followers before ascending to **heaven**.
Legacy
Jesus is regarded as the **Son of God** in Christianity and is central to the faith. His teachings led to the formation of **Christianity**, which became one of the world’s largest religions. He is also recognized as a **prophet in Islam** and is respected in various religious traditions.
Do you know Him?

Submission

1 cor 11:3 “3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.”
The Principle of voluntary submission to authority
WE DON’T like to SUBMIT
it is against our NATURE
The trinity is NOT ME MYSELF AND I
PAUL says a lot in verses 4-15
and we should see this as a culture issue
and we should explore the issues today
We are not going to start
Analyzing your hair do
or make sure you head is covered
But we would have issue if you dress very wrong for church
we would not allow Satanic t shirts
to revealing of dress
YUP we would address you

Conclusion

1 Corinthians 11:16 ESV
16 If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.
There it is
If we have a LIFE GOAL
it is to BE AN IMITATOR OF CHRIST
We are all called to be IMITATORS
of CHRIST
not parents
not spouse
not friends
not idols —- Hollywood or Professional Athlete
We are to
mimic HIS actions,
behavior,
speech,
or style,
We should live daily with the intention of learning, mimicking, or resembling HIM
If it DOESN’T ALIGN WITH SCRIPTURE WITH THE WORD
THEN IS DOESN’T ALIGN WITH US
YES your Pastor and ELDERS are held to a higher standard
but they don’t do it for you
but they DO IMITATE IT FOR YOU
LIVE FOR HIM ALONE
LEARN TO BE LIKE HIM
Walk in Wisdom, Walk Worthy
AMEN
