The other night we went to a birthday party and had a conversation with the little boy’s mom. My little girl says Mom she is so nice. I said Yes she is. She is filled with the Spirit. She loves God and the Spirit shines from her. She says Oh, that makes sense.

We were driving back from town last night and I told the kids that they needed to write down scripture on the walls of their rooms soon before we start putting on dry wall. Our two eldest listed their favorites, then my 4-year old chimes in. She says Mom, I want to put John 8:12 its my favorite. I was surprised and said Really?! Yeah we can do that. She says It means that you should not walk into the darkness but follow the light.

John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Do I ever stumble around in the dark without a source of light?
Does my sin make me unable to see?
Does my sin prevent me from being able to move around without fear?
When I look at God do I only see part of Him?
There are multiple ways to learn and we have varying learning styles. There is a visual learner that must see the task performed in order to learn how to perform the task. There are audible learners that must hear. Kinesthetic learners must perform the task and so on. Usually we are a combination of several different types of learners. John 8:20 “These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.” Inside the treasury there were two large golden lamp-stands on which multiple lamps hung. It was most likely lit after the evening sacrifice. The light was said to be seen all over the city. Jesus gave this example and showed multiple learning styles what He is to us. He is our light. If he is in us then we are filled with light. We cannot walk into darkness because we do not walk alone.
Heavenly Father, there is a question I’ve asked several times. If you have asked Jesus to come into your heart, asked for forgiveness, been baptized but fail to seek Him does that mean we still go to Heaven to be with you? I’m not sure of the answer to that but I think I found a more important question. We knew you were the light to keep us from darkness, the way to forgiveness, love, joy and peace, we knew the truth was you when we made the decision to accept your forgiveness. The question I now have is...Why would we choose to walk into darkness without a light? Heavenly Father, I cannot see in the dark. I cannot move without fear of hurting myself or others. I cannot see those I love clearly without light. I cannot see your face clearly without your son’s light. I love you so much Lord. The thought of being unable to see you brings me fear. I want to look in a mirror and know that I see you in me. That I can operate without fear in any situation, knowing that you go before me. That your Spirit is in me. I will not fear what the devil may do to me or what he may put in my path. I am on a different path. You will give your angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways. You break generational curses like taking offense easily, being quick to anger and so much more. You shine a light on our sins and you show us a better way to be. You are the ultimate teacher. You have to love in order to be an effective teacher and Lord your love for us amazes me. Thank you for all you do for us. For letting us choose to follow you. I may not know completely what you look like or understand all your ways but I will keep praying, seeking, believing and loving you. I pray for my loved ones Lord. That they will follow you and seek your face. I am dead to my sins and I have risen with Christ, I will seek those things which are above where your son is seated at your right hand. I will give praise for his light, I will bask in and marvel at his glory. With all my love and all my strength I will cling to you. Direct my steps and guide my hands. For your glory and praise. In Jesus name amen.
Colossians 3:1 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
Proverbs 20:8–9 “A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment Scattereth away all evil with his eyes. Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?”
