Devotion
Mark 12:30 - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."
Today let’s talk about the devotion of the women who first encountered the risen Christ
Mateo 28:1-10 narrates the resurrection of Jesus, a pivotal moment in Christian faith. Here are some key points that stand out:
1. The Women at the Tomb – Mary Magdalene and the other Mary go to Jesus' tomb early in the morning, showing their devotion and desire to honor Him.
1. Luke 24 - Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and other women go to the tomb early in the morning, bringing spices to anoint Jesus' body
2. Marc 16 - Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome go to the tomb early in the morning to anoint Jesus' body, showing their devotion.
2. The Earthquake, The Stone and the Angel – A great earthquake occurs as an angel descends, rolls away the stone, and sits on it. The angel's appearance is described as lightning, symbolizing divine power.
1. Luke 24 - They find the stone already moved, signaling divine intervention.
2. Marc - They wonder who will roll away the large stone, but upon arrival, they find it already moved, signifying divine intervention.
3. The Guards' Fear – The Roman guards tremble in fear and become like dead men, emphasizing the supernatural nature of the event.
4. The Angel’s Message – The angel reassures the women, telling them not to be afraid and announcing that Jesus has risen, just as He had foretold.
1. Luke - Two angels appear in dazzling garments and ask, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” They remind the women that Jesus had foretold His resurrection.
2. Mark - A young man in a white robe (an angel) tells them that Jesus has risen and is no longer in the tomb. He instructs them to inform the disciples and Peter that Jesus will meet them in Galilee.
5. The Empty Tomb – The angel invites the women to see the place where Jesus had been laid, confirming His resurrection.
1. Luke – Upon entering, they do not find Jesus' body, leading to confusion and uncertainty.
6. LUKE ADDS
1. The Women Remember Jesus’ Words – The angels recall Jesus' prophecy that He would be crucified and rise on the third day, and the women finally understand.
2. The Women as First Witnesses – They rush to tell the disciples, emphasizing their role as the first messengers of the resurrection.
7. The Women’s Encounter with Jesus – As they leave to tell the disciples, Jesus Himself appears to them, greeting them. They worship Him, holding His feet, signifying their recognition of His divinity.
8. Jesus’ Instructions – Jesus tells the women to inform His disciples and assures them that they will see Him in Galilee.
This passage highlights the fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy, the divine intervention in His resurrection, and the joy and worship that follow. It also reinforces the role of women as the first witnesses to the resurrection, a significant detail in the Gospel narrative.
