Good morning church,
Let me ask you something today: Have you ever been afraid?
I’m not talking about horror movies or thunderstorms.
I’m talking about the kind of fear that grips your heart…
Fear of losing a job.
Fear that the doctor will give you bad news.
Fear that you’ll never be good enough.
Fear of rejection, of failure, of the unknown.
We all know what fear feels like. It creeps in quietly and suddenly takes over the room.
But here’s what I want to speak into today: As followers of Jesus, we do not fear—not because life is easy, but because God is with us.
Point 1: Fear is real, but it’s not final
Point 1: Fear is real, but it’s not final
Fear has been around since the Garden of Eden.
After Adam and Eve sinned, what did Adam say?
“I heard You in the garden, and I was afraid…” (Genesis 3:10).
That was the first time fear showed up in the Bible. And it hasn’t left since.
Fear entered when separation from God entered.
So fear—at its root—is not just an emotion. It’s a spiritual signal.
It tells us something is out of place.
And the enemy loves to use fear to whisper, “God won’t come through.”
But here's the truth: God is not the author of fear. He is the answer to it.
Point 2: We do not fear because God is with us
Point 2: We do not fear because God is with us
Psalm 23:4 says:
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me."
David doesn’t say he avoided the valley.
He says even though I walk through it, I will not fear.
Why?
Because You are with me.
Notice something: the presence of the valley doesn’t remove fear.
The presence of God does.
There’s something powerful about knowing you’re not alone.
Think of a child who hears a noise at night. He’s terrified— by God, fear loses its grip.
Because fear says: “What if God lets me down?”
But love says: “Even if… God is still with me.”
God’s love is not seasonal.
It’s not based on how you feel or how good you’ve been.
His love is constant, and His love is powerful.
And when you stand in the love of God, fear has no room to breathe.
Point 4: We do not fear because we’vuntil his father walks in and sits on the edge of the bed.
The noise hasn’t stopped. The storm is still outside.
But the child sleeps peacefully because his father is near.
Point 4: We do not fear because we’vuntil his father walks in and sits on the edge of the bed.
The noise hasn’t stopped. The storm is still outside.
But the child sleeps peacefully because his father is near.
God is not a distant Father. He’s the Shepherd who walks into our storm and stays there with us.
Point 3: We do not fear because perfect love casts out fear
Point 3: We do not fear because perfect love casts out fear
1 John 4:18 says:
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…”
What does this mean?
It means when we understand how deeply we are lovede been given a different Spirit
It means when we understand how deeply we are lovede been given a different Spirit
2 Timothy 1:7 says:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Let me say it plainly—fear is not from God.
So when fear comes knocking, we don’t open the door and invite it in.
We remind ourselves what God has given us:
● Power – strength to keep going
● Love – the heart to stand strong in kindness
● A sound mind – clarity to think with truth, not panic
You are not a victim. You are a child of God with a different Spirit inside of you.
Closing:
Closing:
You will face valleys.
You will walk through dark places.
You will have moments where fear wants to shout louder than your faith.
But in those moments, remember this:
You don’t walk alone.
You don’t fight empty-handed.
And you don’t belong to fear.
Fear may visit—but it does not get to stay.
Because the One who holds you is bigger than the thing that’s trying to break you.
Let’s be a people who can say, even in the valley:
“I will not fear, for You are with me.”
Prayer to End:
Prayer to End:
Lord, thank You that You are the God who walks with us in every valley.
Thank You that we are not alone, that Your love casts out fear, and that You’ve given us a Spirit of power.
Teach us to recognise fear for what it is—a lie—and to respond with truth.
We place our trust in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
