Introduction: Have you ever watched or been to a concert where you see people raising their hands, jumping, some to an extent even cry out of being overwhelmed. Now, what difference do we have from them?
Of course we know we are not merely worshipping man but Almighty God! What we need to separate or be careful with is whether we are worshipping in our just our flesh or soul or is it in our spirit.
You see, a worship motivated by the soul seeks is all about the emotional feelings, the hype, the goosebumps. Soulish worship may make us feel good for a time but only spiritual worship changes us!
John 4:23–24 ESV
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
God is seeking for those who worship him in Spirit and in Truth. There are 2 things, first is worship must be in the spirit and second it should be in truth. What is the truth?
John 17:17 ESV
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
What is the truth that sanctifies us - the Word. The songs that we sing are not just mere words on lyrics. We are singing God’s words!
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Psalm 95 ESV
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work. For forty years I loathed that generation and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.” Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They shall not enter my rest.”

Conclusion

Tonight let us not merely settle for feeling good of our soul. Seek to be the true worshipper God is looking for, where the Holy Spirit and truth about Christ guide our connection with God. This aligns our worship with its ultimate purpose: glorifying God through the transformed life.
2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
