I over explain… A LOT. I don’t see it as over explaining, but Kaitlyn does.
Not saying Jude’s over explaining here…but if it feels that way, that’s understandable. But we must notice the length he’s going to paint the picture of who these frauds, the FT’s are!
Title: The Last Word About The Frauds”
Last word on the FT’s directly before ending this letter with a focus again to the believers primarily.
The Prophecy of Enoch
The Prophecy of Enoch
begin w/ Enoch’s prophecy. Can go deep here…what you should know is Jude quotes from a reconognized work during his time known as 1 Enoch.
Doesn’t mean he views this book as inspired. His use of it is inspired by the Holy Spirit. Useful to quote to get this truth across.
Talking about the judgement of the Lord. On all unbelievers, ungodly doers of ungodliness. To be ungodly is to be not like God. Therefore, if unrepentant, will suffer under the judgement of our holy God.
Ungodly repeated here in some form 4 times. Jude uses this on purpose…to emphasize the wickedness of the frauds.
Unbelievers, which includes the FT’s, are ungodly, they do acts of ungodliness, in a very ungodly way, and they are ungodly sinners!
Those in view here has spoken harsh things against someone…the Lord Jesus! This will not go unpunished! Who can bring any charge, any harsh statement against the only holy one?
Final Five Fold Description of the Frauds
Final Five Fold Description of the Frauds
These=frauds.
They are grumblers. Complainers against the Lord. malcontents = Faultfinders- Schreiner. Is this you? Do you find fault with everything? I certainly can. This is not righteous, not fruit of the Spirit. A result of trusting oneself and not relying on the Lord.
They followed after their own desires, consistent with how Jude has previously described them. They love their sin. Do you? Or do you hate it?
They boasted loudly in rebellion against God. They were proud of their rebellion. Didn’t care for the Lord.
Lastly, they showed favoritism and flattered in order for gain. We’re not sure what exactly was said. Almost certainly, according to Schreiner, it was for financial gain. Likely they were teaching what people wanted to hear…as a main motivator.
Conclusion
Conclusion
It WILL get brighter I assure you. Take seriosuly though Jude’s description of the fraud’s. They are fakes. Phony. They put on a show.
Is this you? Or is your profession real? Do you actually love the Lord like you say? Be encouraged his grace is there. Repent and believe tonight.
Resist false teaching. Cling to the truth. Keep watch of yourselves…motivated by the grace of God.
