First- The Requirement for the Blessing ( Butler, John G)
First- The Requirement for the Blessing ( Butler, John G)
If you want something from God you must show some desire for it. If you yawn in the middle of your request, do not expect God to go to a lot of trouble answering your prayer. Righteousness is something very special so we are not surprised to see a great desire required to obtain it. There are three characteristics about the desire for righteousness.
1. The focus of the desire (the story of Joseph)
Gen 39:7… Joseph was well-built and handsome.
His master’s wife asked Joseph to sleep with her, but he refused and said, “My master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he owns under my authority. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do this immense evil, and how could I sin against God?
Second, when no one was in the house she grabbed him by his garment and said, “sleep with me!” but leaving his garment in her hand, he escaped and ran outside.
Genesis 39:9 “No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do this immense evil, and how could I sin against God?””
Joseph was young
But he wasn’t YOLO ( You Only Live Once)
He might be in the wrong place, but his heart was in the right place. And he follow his heart according to God’s will. He might only live once but he sacrifice his flesh desire and choose righteousness over wickness.
Rightousness, we desire so many things, but few desire righteousness.
Be right with God and to live right with man if our ultimate Goal.
Desire to be holy
The fervency of the desire “ Hunger and Thrist”
How strong is your desire
if your desire isn’t strong for God, im sorry to tell you this, you’ve committed idolatery.
Psalm 42:1–2 “As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God?”
The frequency of the desire
is it a constant desire?
